Dr. No: No real theme song
in the title, except for the calypso version of Three Blind Mice and the James
Bond Theme
From Russia With Love:
Another instrumental, but whatever happened to Matt Munro? He sang the version of
FRWL in the movie (Can you tell me where the song appears IN the film, besides
the closing credits?)
Goldfinger: Shirley Bassey,
last I heard, is performing in Vegas.
Thunderball: Tom Jones did
go on to become a bigger celebrity, fizzled in the 70's and came back in the late 80's,
bigger and better
You Only Live Twice: But
Nancy Sinatra didn't... she took her boots made for walkin' and kept on going... into
oblivion
On Her Majesty's Secret
Service: Another instrumental, but Louis Armstrong died shortly after singing the
beautiful We Have All the Time in the World
Diamonds Are Forever: See Goldfinger
Live and Let Die: Paul
McCartney and Wings, after releasing the Band on the Run album the same year were
still going strong until 1978. Wings disbanded in '80 and McCartney's next big album was
1983's Tug of War. He made some more albums and a movie then the next big one was
1990's Flowers in the Dirt. He has been knighted (in '95, I believe), reunited
briefly with the remaining 2 other Beatles and is enjoying renewed success. Can you tell
I'm a big Beatles nut?
The Man With The Golden Gun:
Lulu. Who who? Disappeared. Update:
According to an e-mail I received from "Garth Plenty" in London, Lulu is still
around. She still makes appearances on the TV
The Spy Who Loved Me: The
theme song, Nobody Does It Better, was a huge hit for Carly Simon and composer
Marvin Hamlish in 1977. Heard from them since? I haven't. Up until this point they were
everywhere!
Moonraker: See Goldfinger
For Your Eyes Only: Sheena
Easton had a few more hits in the 1980's, but I hear this one more that even Morning
Train!
Octopussy: All Time High
was the high mark for Rita Coolidge. Never heard from since
A View To a Kill: Duran
Duran got killed after this hugely popular song. They disbanded about a year later,
reunited in the 90's, had two hits and that's all she wrote.
The Living Daylights: I
liked a-ha. The song Take On Me, as well as the video, were favorites of mine.
But after they did the theme to TLD, they too disappeared!
License to Kill: I think
Gladys Knight came out of retirement to do this song and right back to the retirement
home.
GoldenEye: Ditto for Tina
Turner. She must be with Gladys.
Tomorrow Never Dies: But
Sheryl Crow might, career wise. Only time will tell.
