After a string of disappointments in the 007 series,
Bond is back in The Spy Who Loved Me and the film is the most slick and
professional in the series since 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Many complained about this film, saying it was simply a remake of You Only
Live Twice, and there are many similarities. But Spy is a highly entertaining
movie, and contains all the hallmarks of the best of the Bond films.
Did you know...
Barbara Bach's film career went
nowhere after this film (Of course, marrying Ringo Starr helped)
Jaws was the only henchman to return
to a subsequent Bond film
There we complaints of too many
similarities to You Only Live Twice (I'll post some of them here in the future)
This movie contains the first of two
references to Bond being married once
This movie was to originally stage
the return of Blofeld as the villain, but Kevin McClory (the producer who owns the film
rights to Thunderball) blocked the use of that character
Ian Fleming was so discouraged by his
novel "The Spy Who Loved Me" that he stipulated that ONLY the title be used when
the film would be made (No problem... the producers were used to this by now anyway!)
The end of the film announced: "The
end of The Spy Who Loved Me, But James Bond will return in For Your Eyes
Only." The next film was Moonraker
THE END OF THE SPY WHO LOVED ME...
JAMES BOND WILL RETURN IN
MOONRAKER
