M's report:

Your mission, 007, is to investigate the mysterious abduction of a U.S. manned rocket that was in orbit around the Earth. The Russian government has a rocket scheduled to make a flight in weeks. Make sure that nothing happens to that flight.

007's report:

After investigation, SPECTRE was found responsible for the abduction of United States space capsule. Destroyed SPECTRE base and enjoyed recuperation in Japan.

You Only Live Twice was overall a good entry in the Bond series, weaker than Thunderball in story, but much better than any of the 1970's Bonds! As I said in the Thunderball review, SPECTRE is almost nonexistant in this film. Sure, the organization is there, but it is overshadowed by Blofeld. This begings the "Bond vs. Blofeld" stage of the saga, rather than the "Bond vs. SPECTRE" stage.

Trivia

Connery called it quits on this one. He and Bond were indistinguishable in the public eye

We see Blofeld's face for the first time

A massive search began for the next Bond. One of the actors being considered was Timothy Dalton, who turned down the part because he figured he was too young.
