Graphics are a great way to add
something to an empty page. In fact, just a page with a lot of annoying graphics that take
a lot of time for the person to download is fun!
Size: Everyone has a T-1, so don't be
afraid if your small image is a 200K JPEG.
Color: Loud an annoying colors are the
best! If you can puke it, you can use it!
Image Backgrounds: Many images such as
objects are not square and so there has to be a background in the image. So make sure that
the background is not transparent. This means that the page's background color or image
will not blend in and you see a ridicules color.
This image shows what I am talking about in the above three cases:
Here are some other tips:
Broken Links: Who cares if the image
doesn't exist. You obviously don't!
ALT Tags: This is the text that appears
behind the image before it loads. My advice, don't use it. Especially when the image is
just a broken link.
Predefined Size: Make sure you don't tell
the browser the size of the image before it loads. This prevents the browser from having
the layout made before the image loads. Instead you want the user to see the entire page
go haywire when the image loads. Believe me, it's annoying!
