AGAPE MINISTRIES is a missions oriented ministry, concentrated on both home and foreign needs. At home: we mean those among us that find themselves in need because of poverty, catastrophic displacement, (e.g. fire, flood, or weather) or incarceration of breadwinner of the family unity. We distribute boxes of food and if necessary clothes to those in need. So far we have helped families as far away as Rhode Island, New York and Pennsylvania; and here in New Jersey communities such as Roselle, Newark, Orange, New Brunswick, Somerset and Washington. We have discovered there is a great need for Senior Citizen housing in our area. We have taken steps to address this need and hope to see this effort come to fruition soon. Foreign: we work through churches to bring relief to the poor in countries in the West Indies and Guyana. We have sent barrels of food and clothes to churches in St. Lucia and Guyana. Presently we are preparing two more barrels for another church in Guyana. AGAPE MINISTRIES is strictly a volunteer/donations ministry and is not financed nor subsidized by any. The finances for barrel postage come from the Adult Sunday School class and the gas and other travel expenses are as the Lord provides.

Ladies Bible Study meets each Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. We meet for Bible study, fellowship, prayer and refreshments at First Baptist Church in Washington Borough. Our study of Max Lucado's book and study guide called, "God Came Near" has enlarged our view of God and drawn our attention to the often neglected facets of His person and His relationship with His children. Once again, Max Lucado has not disappointed. This ministry resumes in September with a new study topic. If you would like to attend please call the church at 908-689-1339.

A little over a year ago, I was invited by the chaplain of our county prison, Rev. Gerald Scott, to share in the prison ministry there. Since then, I have been going to the prison every other Sunday where, God has used me in bringing the Word to the souls there. Over that period of time we have seen the attendance grow to such an extent that where there was one service covering the hour we spend there; there are now two services in the space of time. We have seen several souls surrender to the saving power of the precious Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have seen real tears of repentance and a genuine turning to Christ not from men only but from the women also. The ministry does not only affect this institution here but a letter from one of the prisoners who was transferred to another prison informed us that he has started a Bible class in that institution. I used to keep count of how many had surrendered to Christ, but a few weeks ago the Holy Spirit checked me and told me to rejoice over the fact of their salvation rather than how many, so I have stopped counting and am praising God more for this wonderful opportunity of ministry. In addition to this Sunday service, there are Bible classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Rev. George Bruce

Having a heart and great concern for the elderly, I have always been in Nursing Homes Ministry. Thus when I moved into this area it was an answer to prayer to be invited to minister to the elderly of Brakeley Care Park. This involves holding a service for the residents every Friday afternoon, visiting on a one to one basis with those too sick to attend service and who request such a visit, and even holding the occasional Memorial Service for a regular attendee who has gone Home. On the first Friday of each month, I serve the Lord's Supper to those who desire it. We have seen tremendous growth in both attendance and attention in these services. There has been healing of both the soul and the physical. Spiritual as well as psychological feeding. Rev. George Bruce
