Revolutionary War Weekend |
On September 8 &
9, the Friends of Long Pond Ironworks
will be hosting a
Revolutionary War
Reenactment/18th Century Living History Weekend
at the Long Pond Ironworks Historic District in
old Hewitt, West Milford.
The site will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. with on-going activities including:
The above activities and discussions of the times will all serve to bring the old village of Long Pond to life.
The battle scenario will loosely recreate the April 14, 1780 British raid on Hopperstown (old Ho-Ho-Kus) in Bergen County. Participants in the battle will include Robert Erskine's Militia/Board's Company, Continental Line Units, British regiments, Loyalists and Simcoe's Dragoons (cavalry). The suggested donation for this event will be $1.00 per child and $5.00 per adult.
Additionally there will be Candle Lantern Tours on Saturday night. These are by reservation only with a $10.00 donation for all tickets. Lantern tours includes history vignettes recreating local events and storytelling by the furnace around a fire. Reenactors interested in participating either in military activities, crafts demonstrations or civilian portrayals are also encouraged to call or email for more information.
