Illuminated Gateway. The
Gateway that illuminated the
World Fair in 1992, when it was
transferred from "Prado de San
Sebastian" to the place known
as "Los Remedios".
Feria de Abril. The origin of the Seville Fair dates
back to 1847, when a make-believe city, with a net work of
streets,where stands promoted by organizations of every character.
There was great amount of dancing,and singing to the partaking of "sherry"
and to the tasting of the typical food from each area. Through the streets
a great multitude on horseback, in highly decorated carriages, or slowly
walking, sang, danced or played the guitar. Nowadays the men wear a short
jacketed suit with a Cordobés hat, and the women "Faralaes", a long
dress with a flouncing train in bright captivating colours.
A few years ago in 1997, the spectacular "gateway"
which gives access to the Fair (beginning the night of the 14th April),
added up to fourteen million hours of work and an investment of 14.000,000.pesetas.This
year a million visitors are expected to arrive at this fun loving city
which cradles in its "Calle del Infierno" (Hell Road), 550 attractions,
17,000 parking spaces and 800 cops!
