See List of Member Schools and Delivery
Schedule for your school district to determine the days you can reserve
media. Each Delivery Schedule has instructions to
help you use the proper order dates.
You
can reserve items in advance for the entire school year. We will mail a
confirmation to your school. Please be sure to check it and call as soon as
possible if you have any questions.
It is
preferable that we receive your order one week in advance of your desired
delivery date (simply place them inside the returning film delivery bag). Requests
can also be sent no later than noon of the day before your scheduled delivery -
but please do not make last-minute requests a routine procedure. Get your
orders in as early as possible.
Your
orders must be confirmed in advance of your scheduled pick up. (See Delivery Schedule.) Once your order is booked, it is
pulled from inventory and packed with orders for other teachers in your school
and district. This must be done in advance of the appointed time your
district's courier comes to our center to pick up and deliver to you. (See directions to our center.)We ask for your
cooperation to get your orders in as early as possible in advance of your
courier's pick up deadline. With a staff of only three, we must work
efficiently. That is why unannounced walk-in requests and non-courier pick-up
orders are discouraged.
There
are eight ways to order. Whichever method you use, you must tell us:
(1)
WHO YOU ARE -- Use the correct four digit district number and three digit
school number -- see List of Member Schools. The
last six digits of your social security number is your teacher code.
(2)
MEDIA ITEM REQUESTED -- Learn to use our catalog. We have a print version. Our Web Catalog is coming soon, we will
contact you when it is ready to be used. In the printed catalog there is a
Subject Index, followed by an Alphabetical Index. The Alphabetical Index gives
complete program information. Each title has a catalog number composed of a
prefix letter (A to J) and four digits. Note: most videocassettes just happen
to carry the letter "I" - this is NOT a number "1". Refer
to the inside front cover for a KEY TO SYMBOLS AND
ABBREVIATIONS. This will tell you what media format you are ordering -
videocassette, CD-ROM, videodisc, etc. - as well as other features.
(3)
DELIVERY DATE -- Indicate the month and day you want the material delivered to
your school. ALWAYS USE YOUR DISTRICT'S ASSIGNED SHIP DATES (delivery date)
ACCORDING TO THE DELIVERY SCHEDULE for your
district.
EXTENSIONS:
Once an item is in your school and you need more time before it is due back you
can request an extension. You must call (973) 884-0980 for authorization - do
not fax or e-mail extension requests. You must make voice contact with us to
O.K. an extension. You can call any time, but no later than noon of the day
before an item is due. The item you have could be assigned already to the next
user in another school. Don't disappoint your fellow educators. Return items on
time. You may be asked to return late items to our center.
OPTIONS:
You may choose all or a combination of five options:
(1)
SEND NEXT WEEK - If the item you requested is not available for the first date
you indicated, we will try for the next week.
(2)
SEND UP TO ONE MONTH LATER - If the item you requested is not available for the
first date you indicated, we will try for the next four weeks.
(3)
SEND NEXT AVAILABLE DATE - If the item you requested is not available for the
first date you indicated, we will book it for the next available date up to the
end of the school year.
(4)
SUBSTITUTE VIDEO TAPE/FILM - In some cases we have the same program on both 16mm
film and VHS video. If you can use either format, this option will substitute
the other format for you if the preferred format is not available for the date
you indicated. Do not send in two requests -- one for the film, one for the
video.
(5)
KEEP FOR TWO WEEKS - If your schedule or your school's media distribution
system pre-vents you from utilizing our materials fully, please feel free to
request a two-week reservation period. Otherwise, one week is standard and
allows more people in other schools to use each item.
