The
Morris County Media Services Center is operated by the Morris County AVA
Commission, a non-profit, public education authority established under N.J.S.A.
18A:51 to furnish educational media and technology resources to participating
schools of Morris County. The commission board is
composed of eight members representing school districts and includes the county
librarian and county superintendent of schools (also see catalog back cover).
Our primary contact is with the school media specialist/librarian and the
classroom teacher.
Located
in Whippany, New Jersey, (see directions) our
center maintains a lending library of more than 9,000 videotapes, laser
videodiscs, CD-ROMs, 16mm films and other materials for the K-12 curriculum and
staff development. We are not part of the public or county library system. We
exist solely to support and enrich the curriculum needs of member schools.
The
Media Services Center is funded entirely with annual assessments paid by local
districts on a per pupil basis -- just $3.60 per student. By sharing access to
our million-dollar collection, member schools realize a teaching resource far
more extensive than they could acquire on their own. The equity of local fiscal
support allows all schools; no matter how large or small; no matter how rich or
poor; equal access to some of the finest and most powerful educational
materials available.
Member schools are listed in the introductory pages
of our catalog. As a teacher in a member school, you may request and use as
many of our materials as necessary to help you succeed in your classroom.
Please observe the following guidelines:
Our
materials are intended for non-profit, board-approved activities in member
schools only.
Our materials must never be loaned to non-member schools, or other outside
groups or individuals.
Our materials must never be used where a fee is charged, or for private
tutoring.
Our materials must never be copied, broadcast, televised or transmitted without
explicit written permission from the copyright holder. See copyright policy on page 308 in our catalog.
Our materials may be used for board-approved summer school programs or
professional evaluation. Send requests on your school's letterhead.
Your
orders are processed and packed for shipment to your school in advance of a
prearranged pickup by a courier from your district -- nearly 20,000 items to
130 schools each year. Our crew consists of two full-time and one part-time
staff. We are dedicated to providing our schools with accurate, timely
availability of defect free materials. We appreciate your assistance and
cooperation toward this end.
