I hope that's P.B.'s horse and buggy standing there. There is another horse and buggy in the Wasbash Avenue photo, sitting up Wabash under a tree. Hope that's P.B.'s, too.

ROYAL HUBERT CARLOCK (1899 (in Indiana)-1970 (d. heart attack, Washington, D.C.)
Was an aerial photographer with U.S. Army in 1917. Stayed in Washington, D.C. after his discharge and in 1920, he went on staff at the Buckingham Studios in Washington as a photographer and hand tinter (he handpainted in the color with oil paints). In 1922, he opened his own Snappy Snap Shop out of which he began producing his own hand-tinted photographs, which he said were hand-painted photographs with class. Soon his photographs of Washington, D.C. tourist sights, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, White House, or the Lincoln Memorial, especially those he made in what he called his Cherry Blossom Time editions. His wife Emma soon became his hand-painter or she supervised the hand-tinting of several young women. He gave up hand-tinting in 1957 due to the advent of color film on photography and became a conservator. He died of a coronary condition in 1970 at age 71.
