Age
7 - 8 Months
Well, it has been an interesting few months.
Mom and I have continued going to dog classes. As I've gotten bigger,
mom has stepped up her training. She's been taking me out more
frequently and is constantly bombarding me with requests. At times,
I just don't feel like doing all these commands, but in the end, I always
have to do what she asks. I particularly don't like the down-stays
and to be honest, I don't think mom likes practicing them either.
She seems to get bored with them as much as I do, but she insists that
it is important.
I
had a very unusual experience in late November. The family packed
up the car as if we were going on a trip, but on the way, they left me
at this strange place with lots of barking dogs and kennels. I kept
waiting for the family to show up and take me home, but after a few hours
I decided to make the most of my situation. While I was there, the
kennel people brought two Newfies and a St. Bernard back to my section.
We all commiserated on our plight and admonished our families for leaving
us. In the end, however, it wasn't so bad. The kennel people
fed me and took me for walks in the woods every day. On Sunday, they
came and took me to another place where I was given a bath. The nice
ladies dried my hair with a blow dryer, did my nails and ears and then
insisted that I sit for this ridiculous picture. I really wasn't
up for the bow but they said my family would like it. Afterwards,
mom and one of my little people showed up and I pretended to be all
excited to see them. Gosh, they carried on so, you'd think I had
been gone for weeks. It was only three days!
You
must admit I am growing up quickly. I weigh 70 pounds now and am
about 26" tall. My family is pretty busy right now but they still
fit in time for playing with me. My favorite time of the day
is after dinner. I'm usually pretty geared up by then and if I heckle
mom long enough, she gives in and takes me out for an evening romp.
This usually includes me racing like a wild thing around the yard while
she pretends to catch me. It's the best game and I really look forward
to it. I just don't understand why as the weather gets colder, mom
isn't as enthusiastic about playing. Afterall, I do all the
running! I've had to learn how to be really obnoxious to get mom's
attention and to get my way.
I must have been very
good?
Here's me and the gang.
Oh, what a wonderful present I make!
I had a great time over the holidays.
Especially when we all got to open presents. I got all kinds of great
toys and was even allowed to chew up paper and leave it laying in a pile
on the family room rug. Mom and dad must of had too much egg nog!
They never let me make a mess like that or at least not without getting
scolded. The family however went away again, but now that I'm used
to the kennel, I didn't mind much. The kennel owners even moved my
spot up to the front. One of my Newfie buddies was also back so we
got caught up on things.
I've found my true joy in life - snow!
Why didn't anyone tell me about this wonderful stuff. You can eat
it, run in it, slide on it, get it all over your face and even catch it
if you're really good. Me and the kids have had a blast playing outside.
One of my favorite games is trying to run faster than them when they slide
down the hill. There is one problem though, you must stop before
you hit the trees. I found out the hard way!
