Who We are
In 1999 we moved our
sheep farm from our previous location of 28 years in northwestern New
Jersey to a magnificent setting looking out to Mt. Moosilauke in
Piermont, New Hampshire. Although we enjoyed our 'past lives' in
northern New Jersey, the encroachment of housing developments and the
general difficulty of farming in a suburban community (that had many
farms in it when we moved there) finally made us begin the search for
a larger farm in a community as yet untouched by suburban sprawl. Our
search ended when we found a 200 year old stone cape on 190 acres
with ample grazing, magnificent views and all of the support needed
for farming close by.
What we had not
bargained for in selecting this location for the most significant
decision in our lives, quickly turned out to be the most important
factor once we began the two year project of moving our farm from NJ
to NH. Namely, the wonderful people we quickly met through our joint
love of farming and country values. So many people have helped us in
so many ways that it is difficult to even begin to acknowledge them.
Suffice to say for now that the open arms with which we were welcomed
made us immediately realize that we had made the correct
decision.
We have spent our
time since moving to Apple Blossom Farm reclaiming the long overgrown
pastures and pushing back to the centuries old stone walls. Needless
to say, we and our sheep are enjoying the more open feel of the farm
as tree rows are thinned and grass is encouraged to grow where weeds
and brush once threatened to overtake everything.
