Dave and Kath have been Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) operators for about 15 years. Dave's call sign is K1UZM and Kath's call is W2KAT. Dave was a SWL' er (Short Wave Listener) as a youth, but never took the plunge to becoming a Ham until the early 90's. Kath helped Dave study for the tests and found that she had also learned the needed information to pass the test herself. Kath has a love for computers and found a nice interface between them and the radio hobby. Soon she was sending her key strokes over the air and around the world. Over the past 15 years electronics have made huge changes in our lives and in the way we do things; some of these changes are a direct result of the Amateur Radio hobby. Staying on the leading edge is both fun and a challenge. We operate our radios in many different modes, such as SSB voice, FM voice, Packet, RTTY, APRS, QRP and some satellite communications.

Our HF rigs in the shack are Kenwoods TS440S, used for voice, and a TS690 for digital work. For VHF we have a Yaesu 736R -- 2M, 440, 220 all-mode-- and an Alinco DR110 for packet and APRS. For field use we have Yaesu FT817 QRP radio (Dave's favorite.)
Antennas are an A3S tri-bander at about 45 feet, a Comet vertical dual bander,an A14820T 2 Meter Hi-Lo Cross Yagi, a Ringo Ranger for 220, a dipole for HF, and others.
Mobiles are two Kenwood D700's and an Alinco DX 70. We can be found on APRS as W2KAT-5 and K1UZM-5.
There are lots of web sites where you can track us. Try Googling the above call signs.
