A blue ocean stretches before the camera as the view shifts upward to
a large island, surrounded by clouds in the distance.
The wind whistles as the camera focuses on the misty island we see that
it is "ISLA SORNA", located "87 miles Southwest of Isla Nublar". The
camera moves down from the sky to huge cliffs covered by foliage.
Camera moves down the cliff side to waves crashing on the shoreline
rocks, causing saltwater to thrust upwards.
The camera slowly begins to move out from the cliffs, facing the
ocean. A white yacht floats upon the churning waves, not far from
the shore. A woman chatters in the background.
A member of the crew, wearing a white sailing uniform, passes in
front of the view of the yacht. The camera moves to follow him.
Mrs. Bowman: (In a British accent) "I love you. [Kissing sound]
Thank you so much."
A man carrying a bottle of wine comes into view. He begins to pour
the bottle into one of two gold-rimmed crystal flukes sitting on a
table.
Mrs. Bowman: "Fabulous! Thank you Geoffrey."
Geoffrey Bernard: "You're welcome."
Geoffrey finishes pouring the wine into one of the flukes and sets
the bottle into a fancy glass container filled with ice.
Mrs. Bowman: "We'll also take a bottle of red, as well. Thank you."
Geoffrey picks up the full fluke and begins to walk away.
Geoffrey: "Certainly."
Geoffrey walks over to Mr. Bowman. Mrs. Bowman can again be heard
in the background.
Mrs. Bowman: "Right, Now--- oh!"
Mr. Bowman sits in a heavily padded wooden chase lounge reading a
newspaper. He looks up. Geoffrey hands him the fluke of wine.
Mr. Bowman: "Thank you, Bernard."
Geoffrey: "You're welcome."
Another yacht crew member walks up to little Cathy Bowman with a
tray of sandwiches. He bends down to offer her one. She takes it.
Cathy Bowman: "Thank You."
The white yacht can still be seen floating right off shore.
In the background, Mrs. Bowman talks to a crew member.
Mrs. Bowman: "That looks wonderful. Beautiful day."
Cathy begins to walk along the shore.
Mrs. Bowman: "Sweetie, where are you going?"
Cathy: "Eating my sandwich"
Mrs. Bowman: "You'll ruin your appetite, darling. We're
having prawns, your favorite."
Cathy: "I don't like prawns!"
Cathy continues to walk along the beach, away from her mother.
Mrs. Bowman: "Now darling, don't wander off."
Mr. Bowman looks up from his newspaper with a grim face,
disturbed. Lowering his fluke, he peers over at Mrs. Bowman
and smirks.
Mr. Bowman: "For God's sake, leave her alone, Deidre."
Mr. Bowman looks down at his paper. Mrs. Bowman still follows
close behind her daughter, arguing with her.
Mrs. Bowman: "Sweetheart, we'll play with your ball".
Cathy: (Interrupting) "Mother, don't be so annoying!"
Cathy continues to walk off, leaving her mother behind. Her
mother stands, dumbfounded. Mrs. Bowman turns around and walks
over to Mr. Bowman, who still is sitting in the wooden lounge.
A huge ocean wave crashes into a rock far behind them, sending
a huge bulge of white water shooting into the air. The yacht
crew continues to work around the Bowmans.
Mrs. Bowman: "Darling, what about snakes?"
Mr. Bowman: "There aren't any snakes on the beach. Just let
her enjoy herself for once."
Mrs. Bowman considers the idea, and begins to walk away. She
walks over to the small table with the bottle holder and empty
fluke setting on top. She looks up and calls to a crew member.
Mrs. Bowman: "Edward!"
Edward: "Yes ma'am?"
Scene flashes to Cathy Bowman skipping along the other side
of the beach, humming. Sandwich in hand, she bends down and
picks up a small vine growing along the shoreline to look at
it. She drops it. She continues to walk, kicking up sand for
fun. As she gets closer to the dense foliage of the forest,
she takes a large bite of her sandwich, chewing it. Walking
farther inland, Cathy comes to the point where the beach
sand ends. A forest with large trees lies ahead. A bush
beside her shakes.
[Chittering noise]
The bush shakes again, and a chirping noise echoes through
the woods. Cathy looks at the bush in confusion. A small green
creature jumps out of the bush, peering at Cathy. (Compsognathus)
Cathy steps back.
[Creature Squawks]
Cathy Bowman: "Well, hello there."
[Creature Panting]
Cathy: "What are you, some sort of bird or something?"
Cathy gets down on her knees and gets closer to the animal. The
animal chitters again and snorts.
Cathy: "Are you hungry? Here, take a bite."
She tears off a piece of her sandwich and offers it to the
Compy. The compy peers at the food and chirps.
Cathy: "It's roast beef. It's good."
Cathy holds the offering closer to the animal.
Cathy: "Come on, I won't hurt you."
The Compy sniffs the food, then takes it and swallows it
down. Cathy turns her head back toward the beach.
Cathy: "Mummy! Daddy! You've got to come see this! I
found something!"
Holding her sandwich up by her side, Cathy looks back around
to the animal. She begins to frown and become alert. More warbling
and chirping sounds come from the bushes in front of her. She
cautiously peers from side to side. More compys jump from the
underbrush toward her. She quickly jumps to her feet as they begin
to join all around her. They are looking for food.
[more Chirping, Chittering, Squawking]
The camera flashes to the Bowmans. A crew member cautiously places
a nicely-prepared ham onto the table. The table is filled with fine
chef-prepared delicacies. Mrs. Bowman looks up, holding her hat so
that the wind dose'nt blow it off.
Mrs. Bowman: "Cathy, darling, lunch is ready!"
The compys aggressively surround Cathy Bowman on the beach, peering
up at her. Cathy suspects it is the sandwich they are after.
Cathy: "Are you looking at this?"
[Screeching, Growling, Squawking]
The animals continue to circle her.
Cathy: "I'm afraid there isn't enough to go around."
One compy leaps up at Cathy, trying to take the sandwich from her hand.
[Screech]
Cathy screams, throwing the sandwich to the ground. A few of the
compys begin to devour it, but more compys still surround Cathy. A
few compys begin to lunge at Cathy. She screams.
Mr. Bowman throws his newspaper down, and listens. He hears Cathy's
screams. Mrs. Bowman and the crew stop what they're doing and listen,
too. Cathy's screaming can still be heard.
Mrs. Bowman: Paul?
Mr. Bowman hurls himself out of the chase lounge and runs out in
front of Mrs. Bowman and the crew to investigate.
Mr. Bowman: "Cathy!"
Mr. and Mrs. Bowman begin running for their daughter, the crew
hurrying fast in front of them.
They come to the other side of the beach, following Cathy's footprints.
Mrs. Bowman: "Hurry! Hurry up!!!"
Mr. Bowman: "Cathy!"
The crew runs into the woods where Cathy is being attacked. Deidre
Bowman stops dead in her tracks, eyes wide. She gasps for breath as
she peers into the woods. She screams.
[Scream]
Ian Malcolm yawns on a tropical beach, the sky blue behind him. The
sound of subway breaks interrupts the scene.
[Screeching, Squealing]
Ian steps aside, revealing that the scene was nothing more than a
realistic poster behind him. He yawns, walking towards the oncoming
train. He gets on the train and sits down, unfolding his newspaper
and beginning to read as the train starts moving.
Rude Guy: (snaps his fingers several times, then goes and near Ian)
You're him, right?
Ian: excuse me?
Rude guy: the scientist? The guy? I saw you on TV. I believed you.
(chuckles.. He roars, making a "chomping" hand motion with his arms)
Cut to: Hammond's mansion. Ian knocks on the door, and a butler
answers.
Butler: Who shall I tell Mr. Hammond is calling?
Ian: uh.. Ian Malcolm. I've been summoned.
Inside the mansion. Piano music plays softly in the background.
Somewhere a door closes.. Tim and Lex come running down the stairs.
Tim: Dr. Malcolm!
Ian: ...God. Oh, my god!
Lex: Hello Dr. Malcolm! It's so great to see you!
They hug each other.
Ian: Kids! Kids! It's so great to see you! It's so great---look at you!
Tim: You came to see grandpa?
Ian: Yeah, Yeah, he called me. Do you know what this is about? I don't
either.... This joint's kind of creepy.. Isn't it? Is everything ok?
Lex: Well, not exactly.
A group of people wearing suits come walking down the stairs. One of
which is Peter Ludlow.
Ludlow: Well, Dr. Malcolm... Dr. Malcolm. Here to share a few campfire
stories with my uncle?
Ian: You can convince the Washington Post and the Skeptical Enquirer of
anything you want, but I was there; I know what happened -- and so do you.
Ludlow: Do you believe that everyone who chose discretion did so for some
nefarious motive? Even Lex and Tim?
Ian: Leave them out of it. It's not a game.
Ludlow: No it isn't. You signed a nondisclosure agreement before you
went to the island that expressly forbade you from discussing anything you
saw. You violated that agreement.
Ian: Yeah I did, and you lied. You twisted the facts surrounding the deaths of
three people. You stuffed misinformation down the public's throat. Which made me
look like a nut. Hasn't been so good for my livelihood...---
Ludlow: (interrupting) We made a generous compensatory offer for your
injuries.
Ian: That was a payoff and an insult! And when you spin reality, when you
cover up evidence. It hurts. It ruins more than my reputation. It hurts---
Ludlow: (interrupting again) As I recall, your university revoked your tenure
for your selling wild stories to--
Ian: (interrupting) I didn't sell anything. I never took a cent. And I told the
truth.
Ludlow: Your version of it...
Ian: There aren't any versions of the truth. And I'll tell you something, InGen
can't keep spewing out---
Ludlow: InGen is my responsibility now, Doctor, and I will jealously defend
it's interests.
Ian: Your responsibility? What about Mr. Hammond?
Ludlow: It is our board of directors which I must look in the eye, not my
uncle. You must trust me, these problems you have are about to be rendered
moot. In a few weeks time, they'll be long forgotten.
Ian: (takes a hold of Ludlow by his arm) Not by me...
Ludlow: Careful.... This suit cost more than your education.
Cut to: Hammond's bedroom. From off camera:
Hammond: You were right, and I was wrong. There! Did you ever expect to hear me
say such a thing!? Thank God for Site B!
Malcolm: Site B?
Hammond: Isla Nublar was just a showroom; something for the tourists.
Site B was the factory floor. That was on Isla Sorna, 80 miles from
Nublar. We bred the animals there and nursed them for a few months
and then moved them into the Park...
Malcolm: Oh, really? I did not know that.
Hammond: Now, after the accident in the Park, Hurricane Clarisse
wiped out our facility on Site B. Call is a "act of God". But; we had
to evacuate of course, and the animals were released to mature on their
own. "Life will find a way", as you once so elegantly put it. And by
now we have a complete ecological system on the Island! With dozens of
species living in their own social groups. Without fences. Without
boundaries. Without constraining technology. And for four years I've
tried to keep it safe from human interference.
Malcolm: Well, that's right, that's right! I mean, hopefully you've
kept this Island quarantined, ah and contained. But I'm in shock about
all this. I mean, ah, that they're still alive. Ah, you bred them
lysine deficient. Shouldn't they have kicked after seven days without
supplemental enzymes?
Hammond: Yes! But; by God, they're flourishing! That's one of the
thousand questions I want the team to answer.
Malcolm: Team?
Hammond: Yes! I've, ah, I've organized an expedition to go in and
Thank You (Ian helps him out of bed) and document them. To make the most
spectacular living fossil record the world's ever seen!
Malcolm: Wait a minute. Go in... Document?! What do you mean? With like
people?!
Hammond: (crossing to desk) Yes, the animals won't even know they're
there. Very low impact. Strictly observation and documentation. Our
satellite infrareds show that the animals are FIERCELY territorial.
The carnivores are isolated in the interior of the Island; so the team
can stay on the outer rim. Don't worry Ian! I'm not making the same
mistakes again!
Malcolm: (With both hands to sides of face) No, your making, your
making all new ones! Ah, John. Wait. So. Ah. OK, so there's another
Island with dinosaurs?! No fences this time; and you want to send
people in?! Very few people! On the ground! Right? And who are these
four lunatics that your trying to con into this?
Hammond: Well, it was difficult to convince them of what they're
going to see. And in the end I had to use my checkbook to get them
there.
Hammond: (picking up four thick files) But; there's Nick Van Owen,
who's a video documentarian. (hands one file to Ian) And Eddie
Carr, who's a field equipment expert. (hands another file to Ian)
Ah.. we have our paleontologist. (tucks a file under his arm) And
I was hoping that perhaps you might be the fourth! (hands fourth
file to Ian and starts heading towards the bed) We've been on the
verge of Chapter 11 ever since that accident in the Park, and there
are those in the Company who wanted to exploit Site B in order to
bail us out. They've been planning it for years and I've been able
to stop them up until now. But, a few weeks ago a British family on
a yacht cruise stumbled across the Island and their wee girl was
injured. Oh, she's fine! She's fine! But, ah, the Board has used
the incident to take control of InGen from me. And now it's only a
matter of time before this "Lost World" is found and pillaged!
Public opinion is the one thing that I can use to preserve it!
But, in order to rally that kind of support, I need a complete photo
record of those animals. Alive and in their natural habitat!
Malcolm: So, you went from Capitalist to Naturalist in just four
years! That's, that's something!
Hammond: sitting on side of bed, waving Ian over - It's our last
chance at redemption!
Malcolm: John; no! Of course; no! And, I'm going to contact the
other 3 members of your team and I'm going to stop them from going!
- turns toward the desk, leafing through the files.
Malcolm: Who's the paleontologist by the way? Who did you say?
Hammond: She came to me! I want you to know this!
Malcolm: (turning to face Hammond) Who did!?
Hammond: Leave it to you Ian, to have associations, affiliations,
even liaisons with the best people in so many fields.
Malcolm: You didn't contact Sarah!?
Hammond: Paleontological behavior study is a brand new field and
Sarah Harding is on that frontier!
Malcolm: NO!
Hammond: Her theories on Parenting and Nurturing Amongst Carnivores have
framed the debate!
Malcolm: NO! (Looking anxiously about the room)
Hammond: What are you doing?
Malcolm: Where's your phone?
Hammond: (As Ian picks up the phone) It's too late -- she's already
there! The others are meeting her in three days.
Malcolm: almost falling, sits on edge of desk - You sent my
girlfriend to this Island!? Alone!?
Hammond: Sent, is hardly the word! She couldn't be restrained! She was
already working in San Diego doing some research at the Animal Park.
It's only a couple of hours flight from there. And she was adamant!
Absolutely adamant about making the initial foray by herself! -
laughing - Thinks she's Diane Fossey! "Observation without
interference", she said, going on and on; well, you know how it is!
After you were injured in the Park, she sought you out. And then she
went all the way down to that hospital in Costa Rica to ask somebody
who she didn't even know if the rumors were true.
Malcolm: Ah, If you want to leave your name on something, fine! But,
STOP putting it on other people's headstones, John!
Hammond: Oh, she'll be fine! She's spent years studying African
predators. You know, sleeping down wind, and all. She knows what
she'd doing! And believe me the Research Team will...
Malcolm: (pointing his finger to Hammond's face )It's not a
RESEARCH expedition anymore; it's a RESCUE operation, and it's
LEAVING right now!!!
Malcolm leaves.
Hammond counts his four team members on his fingers.
Cut to: Overhead view of a large warehouse. Large vehicles are being prepared
by dozens of workers. In the background a huge, beefed-up trailer with a jungle
color scheme is being worked on by several men. Eddie and Malcolm walk
along-side the vehicle. Malcolm is engrossed in figuring out how to operate the
satellite phone.
Eddie: You can't shave three days off my deadline and expect everything to be
ready... I'm not fully supplied! I haven't field-tested any of this..
Malcolm: (looking at the phone) What's the point of giving her a satellite
phone if it doesn't work? What's the matter with this...
Eddie: Could be anything.. solar flares, satellite out of synch... maybe she
even turned it off. (calling to the workmen) I need half air on the tires here
guys..
Malcolm: (holding the phone up to his ear) Maybe she doesn't know how to use
it...
Eddie: What, are you kidding? She's faxed me refinements on fifty percent of
the plans for this stuff..
The phone still not working, Malcolm hits it a few times on the fender of the
trailer.
Eddie: Ow, ow, ow!! Don't do that! You gotta baby it a bit... you gotta love
it..
Malcolm: I'll love it when it works...
Eddie: It'll work when you love it.. (he takes the handset from Ian) Let me do
it.
Malcolm: Coming along Eddie?
Eddie: (looking down at the phone) I don't like the field much.. but in this
case, I can't resist.
A white van back up into the warehouse. Nick Van Owen gets out. He heads
straight to the back of his van and opens it.
Nick: Thanks for the two-minute warning, Eddie.
Eddie: Nick Van Own, this is Ian Malcolm. Nick's our field photographer.
Malcolm: (shaking Nick's hand) How do you do..
Eddie: Ian's our... Ian..
Malcolm: What's your.. background? Wildlife photography?
Nick: Wildlife, combat, you name it. When I was with Nightline, I was in
Rwanda, Chechnya, all over Bosnia.. (A worker comes over and takes a box from
Nick) Thanks.. Did some volunteer work with Greenpeace once in awhile..
Malcolm: Greenpeace? What drew you there?
Nick: Women.
Eddie: Eighty percent female, Greenpeace.
Malcolm: (quietly) Noble.
Nick: Yeah, well, Noble was last year. This year I'm getting paid. Hammond's
check cleared, or I wouldn't be going on this wild goose chase.. (he turns and
walks away from the van)
Malcolm: Yeah, well, where you're going is the only place in the world where
the geese chase *you*!
From outside, Kelly Malcolm runs into the warehouse.
Kelly: Dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad!
She jumps into Ian's arms.
Malcolm: Oh!! Kelly my honey.. you found it.. What took you so long?
Kelly: I couldn't get a cab...
Malcolm: Sweetie, that's okay.. Now listen.. I gotta tell you, uh..something..
I gotta talk to you.
Cut to: Upstairs in a small office of the warehouse. Kelly sits in a chair and
swivels around.
Kelly: I don't even know this woman.
Malcolm: It's Karen.. you've known her for ten years...
Kelly: She doesn't even have Sega.. She's such a troglodyte..
Malcolm: Cruel, but good word use.
Kelly: Why can't I stay with Sarah? (She gets up and walks around, passing
several architectural drawing tablets. Ian follows her.)
Malcolm: Cause.. uh.. Sarah is out of town... Karen's fantastic! She said she'd
take you horseback riding, to the movies.. you're going to have a fantastic
time.
Kelly finds another chair and kneels in it, swiveling around.
Kelly: Stop saying "fantastic"... Where are you going anyway?
Malcolm: It's only for a few days.. I wouldn't be going if it wasn't really
important..
Kelly: I'm your daughter all the time, you know. You can't just abandon me
whenever opportunity knocks.
Malcolm: (silently) That hurts my feelings... what.. did you mom tell you to
say that?
Eddie calls over the PA system: Dr. Malcolm.. downstairs please.
Malcolm: Sweetie, I know we've had some hard going, but in the last couple of
years.. we've started to work things out. Hasn't it been better?
Kelly: (getting off the chair. Again, Ian follows as she walks around) Yeah,
but I want you to crack on me a bit.. ground me.. send me to my room! You never
do any of that stuff.
Malcolm: Why would I? Cause you turned out to be so beautiful, brilliant,
powerful, funny, and generous? The queen.. the goddess.. My inspiration..
Eddie over PA: Dr. Malcolm..
Kelly: I could come with you! I could be your research assistant like I was in
Austin.
Ian: This is nothing like Austin. Uh-- but anyway, you got your own stuff.
You got your gymnastics competition. You've been training for months..
Kelly: (looking perturbed) Gymnastics? I scrubbed out, Dad. I got cut from
the team. Thanks for knowing..
Ian: Oh.. I'm sorry honey.. I uh.. know how much that meant to you.
Kelly: You like to have kids, but just don't want to be with them do you?
Ian: (angrily) I'm not the one who dumped you here and split for Paris..
(slamming the desk drawer) so don't take it out on me...
Eddie over PA: Dr. Malcolm, downstairs..
Ian: Honey.. I'm.. sorry.. I'm sorry... Hey, you want some good parental
advice? Don't listen to me.. don't listen to me.
Cut to: Floor of the warehouse. Workmen are chattering and shouting.
Ian: How're we doing here?
Eddie: Specs say it can't deform at 12,000 PSI, so we're just gonna test it.
Well let's clear. Are we clear?
Workmen ready a large reinforced metal platform above the trailer. It is pulled
up by a series of wires and pulleys.
Ian: What is this?
Eddie: (looking up) It's a high hide. A HIGH HIDE. You know, you go up, and
you hide.. high. It goes up to where the trees are and keeps the researches out
of harm's way..
Ian: Actually..uh.. it'd put them at a very convenient biting hight.
Cut to: Overhead view of the warehouse. Ian and Eddie walk through the bustle
of workmen. Kelly appears on screen, walking towards the trailer.
Ian: (to Eddie) Um.. what's the time? Do you have the time?
Kelly walks slowly around the trailer.
Eddie: Do I have the time? Why?
Kelly walks up some steps, and enters the large vehicle. Ian and Eddie can be
heard talking from outside.
Ian: We're leaving in three hours.
Eddie: Three hours?
Inside the trailer, Kelly walks through it slowly, staring at the large amounts
of electrical equipment.
Kelly: Whoa.. whoa. whoa. whoa.. this is sooo cool.
She approaches the back of the trailer, and stares at an illuminated map on the
wall. It's a detailed map of a group of islands.. "Las Cinco Muertes" can be
seen next to the group.
Cut to: Overhead shot of the tanker. The camera then switches to right beside
the tanker. The trucks and the trailer are seen aboard. The camera
zooms to the back of the tanker. The camera then zooms out, and the
island is seen with the tanker heading toward it.
There is a shot of some steep mountains, with dense clouds
moving in between them. Then a different is hill comes in view, the
camera comes down. Ian is seen, aboard the ship. He has his back to
the camera. He’s looking at the island. He looks to the right, then to
the left, then he turns around at the sound of a suitcase being opened.
The camera zooms out and Eddie and Ian are in view. Eddie is in front
of a large suitcase.
Eddie: Lindstradt air rifle. Fires a subsonic Fluger impact
delivery dart. (Eddie shows Ian the dart)
Ian: Does it work any better than your satellite phone?
Eddie: That’s funny. (Eddie picks up the gun) I loaded it with the enhanced
venom of conus purpurascens, the South Sea cone shell. (Eddie picks up a metal
pole and starts to screw it in the gun) Most powerful neurotoxin in the
world, acts within a two-thousandth of a second. Which is faster than
the nerve-conduction velocity. So the animal’s down before it even feels
the prick of the dart.
Ian: Is there an antidote?
Eddie: What do you mean, like if you shot yourself in foot?
Don’t do that. You’d be dead before you even realized you had an
accident.
Someone in the background is speaking Spanish. The camera
switches to the trailers. Nick walks out between a jeep and the trailer
speaking Spanish. The captain of the ship and a small boy are
walking behind Nick. They’re arguing with Nick. Nick walks up to Ian.
Nick: Hindini says that he wants to unload on the shore right here.
(The captain quiets the kid)
Nick: He won’t go any further up the river. He’s heard too many stories
about this island chain, and he wants to drop us off, and
go anchor somewhere offshore.
Ian: What kind of stories?
Nick asks the captain Ian’s question in Spanish. The Captain responds,
and Nick translates.
Nick: Si, si, si he’s heard stories of fishermen that came to close to the
island, and then....never returned.
The captain talks to Nick. Nick translates..
Nick: He has the, si, he has the radio, he has the satellite phone...
The captain talks. Nick continues to translate.
Nick: Right, when you need him send the call, he’ll be here in
two hours... But he will not stay here. (The captain holds the kid).. He
won’t stay anywhere near these islands. (The captain finishes talking, his
last words are "las cinco muertes")
Nick: They call the islands- (Nick turns to the captain) Las cinco muertes?
Captain: Si.
The camera switches to Eddie.
Eddie: Bu-, wha-, what does that mean?
The camera switches back to Nick.
Nick: The five deaths......he says.
The camera switches back to Eddie. He looks up, then down toward the
suitcase, and then toward Nick.
"I built a location sensor into Dr. Harding Satellite Phone , so we
should be getting a reading." said Eddie Carr as the three were searching around
in the forest. He was holding a positioning system in his hand. Malcolm Was
walking beside him carrying the Linstrad rifle. Nick was trotting along
behind him with all his camera equipment.
"Yea, I'm so relieved" replied Ian. "look our dot is almost on top of
her dot so she should be right around here.."
"Over.. over there" said Nick. they all started to run through a small
stream, across a large clearing. Ian stopped, on the other side of the
area, and knelt down to examine what he found. It was Sarah's travel pack.
He grabbed it only to stick his finger through a hole near the opening. He
dug through the bag and pulled out the phone. he set it down and yelled,
"Sarah!?"
Nick called out too. "Sarah!"
"Sarah!" Ian called out again.
Nick turned around, "Sarah Harding!!"
Ian said with a sarcastic tone, "How many Sarah's do you think are on
this island? Sarah!"
"Sarah!"
"Sa.." Ian was interrupted by the light sound of bushes being rustled.
Eddie heard it to and walked over to where it was coming from. Ian and Nick
joined him.
"What?" said Ian.
"something' Big." replied Eddie as the sound got louder.
Then all of a sudden they all saw what it was. It came out from behind a
tree, pushing it over. It had a small head with two rows of large plates
that ran down to the end of it's tail where four spikes grew out of.
another came behind that one and one farther down stream.
"Woah.. Yikes.. wow" said Eddie ,surprised, backing up. They all knew
what they were. They were large Stegosaurs. They all turned around as a fourth
one walked by ,behind them, snorting. They all were amazed looking at real
living, breathing dinosaurs. Instinctively, Nick started snapping picture
after picture of these creatures.
"This is magnificent" said Eddie as Ian walks by.
"Oh yea.. ooh..ahh.. that's how it always starts, but then later there's
running and umm.. screaming."
Nick lifted his camera to take another picture. He drops his bag and
walks over to a fallen tree that extended across the stream. He hops up onto it
to get a better view of what he's capturing on film. He still didn't like
view so he hoped up onto another log next to him. He lifted him camera and
took a picture. Sarah turned around and saw him.
"Hey Nick!" she yelled. He was caught off guard and almost fell over.
she started to laugh.
"You kind of got the jump on us there a little bit ,huh Sarah."
"Yea," said Sarah climbing over the log. As soon as she got to the top
of the log, she saw Ian.
"Ian, I never thought, in a million years, Hammond would get would get
you to come here." She said laughing,"Hey Eddie!"
"Hi Sarah," He replied
"You Gotta granola bar or something, I'm starving" She said jumping off
a log pile, into a puddle. She walked over to Ian. " That animal that just
walked by, did you see him, it's a family group. A parabond and a sub-adult
, long after the juvenile was nest bound. Every egg clutch I found had
shells crushed and trampled, the hatchlings definitely stay in the birth
environment for an extended period of time, that's conclusive. I can put
that controversy to rest, if I could just get a shot of the nest."
Ian holds up the bag with his finger, in the hole."you haven't been
attacked?"
"Oh no, it's my lucky pack, it's how it always looks." She responded.
"ok Sarah..." Ian started.
"Is that a Nikon? can I borrow that?" She said to Nick."I'll be right,
baby, I promise."
Sarah started to walk towards the stegosaurs with Ian trailing behind
her.
"Sarah, when Hammond called you, uhh, why didn't you say something to
me?" He said.
"Because I new you would have stopped me from coming."
"I would have tied you to the bed...right"
"I found out how the animals survive without lysine.
"I don't care."
"If you look at the diet of the herbivore species that are thriving you
see that they mostly soy, agma beans, anything lysine rich. and the
carnivores, well they eat the herbivores, so..."she paused "shh wait. hold
on I'll be right back.
"Sarah, Sarah wait!" She ran closer towards the animals. Ian stayed
back. She got down and started to crawl through bushes. All of a sudden, she saw
one of the stegosaurs. Only it was a baby. She felt astound and took a
picture,as she watched the baby eat.
"Sarah. Sarah" said Ian puzzled."She getting much to close,"
"What the hell is she doing?" replied Nick
"Too close, too close."
Sarah reached up to the baby and petted it on his nose. The Dinosaur
snorted and ate. Sarah started to smile.
"Look, she has to touch it." said Ian. Nick was filming with his camera.
"she can not touch, she can not touch. Look at it, once she sees something,
she's gotta, she's gotta.."
Sarah continued to pet the animal. He lifted his head and let out a
small baby roar.
"Wow," said Eddie " Is this even possible?"
"What?" said Ian. "This? What'd you think your were going to document?
What'd you think you were going to see?"
"Animals? Maybe.. big iguanas."
Ian sighed. "Fruitcakes,"
The sudden sound of the film rewinding startles the baby stego. The baby makes
a large howling sound.
Malcolm: They get very angry when you run out of film.
Sarah looks up at the two adult Stegosaurs who turn toward their distressed
baby.
Malcolm: Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!
Sarah turns and runs, as a third Stegosaur come into the scene. The three try
to encircle Sarah. Behind them, Eddie raises the air rifle to his eye. Nick
tries to hold Ian back from running.
Malcolm: Shoot 'em!
Eddie: (hesitant) They're just protecting their baby..
Malcolm: So am I!
Inside the circle of Stegosaurs, Sarah runs around frantically. She ducks under
a tail, turns, and tries to run away. However, another stego charges her. She
dives into a hollow tree trunk, the dinosaur's powerful tail raising for an
attack.
We see Sarah from inside the log as a huge spike breaks through narrowly missing
her body.
Back with Eddie and Ian, Eddie lowers his weapon.
Eddie: They're leaving.. I -- I think they're leaving..
Cut to: The three stroll through the forest, walking by huge Redwood trees.
Eddie: Wow.. Wow..
Nick: These images are incredible.. legendary.. Guys shoot their whole life,
they never get stuff half this good. You could give me the Pulitzer right now
today.. please.. competition's over, close the entries, I'd like to thank
everybody who lost.
Nick pulls out a cigarette and starts to light it.
Sarah: (walking on higher ground) Don't light that. Dinosaurs can pick up
scents from miles away. We're here to document, not interact.
Ian: (interrupting) Which, by the way, is a scientific impossibility. The
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Whatever you study, you also change...
Sarah: Well.. I'll risk it. I'm sick of scratching around in rock and bone and
making assumptions and deductions.. about the nurturing habits of animals that
have been dead for 65 million years.. I'm sick of it man. Then you fill my head
with stories for four years... Of course I'm gonna come down here, what do you
expect?
Ian: Those are stories of mutilation and death.. weren't you paying attention?!
Sarah: Oh pleaseee.. Don't treat me like a grad student.. I've worked around
predators since I was twenty -- lions, jackals, hyenas, you...
Cut to: Eddie and Nick walk through the woods. Suddenly, Nick pushes in front
of Eddie and starts to run. Eddie looks around..
Nick: Shit!
Eddie: Where's the fire?
Cut to: Sarah and Ian.
Sarah: I'm trying to change 100 years of entrenched dogma. Dinosaurs were
characterized very early on as vicious lizards. There's a great deal of
resistance to the idea of them as nurturing parents. Robert Burke said that the
T.rex was a rogue, who would abandon its young at the earliest opportunity... I
can prove otherwise.
Cut to: Eddie.
Eddie: Fire!! Dr. Malcolm.. Fire at base camp!
Sarah turns around, Ian gets up and follows her.
Cut to: Base camp. Nick is retrieving a large jug of water from the back of
one of the AAV's, and pours it on a small fire next to the trailer.
Sarah: No! Water makes smoke billow.. use dirt...
Ian: (Looking up, to himself) Who started the fire?
Suddenly, the door to the trailer swings open, revealing Kelly, standing with a
pan in her hand.
Kelly: I just wanted to make dinner... I wanted it ready when you guys.. got
back.. yeah..
Cut to: Nick and Eddie. Eddie is sitting on the trunk of an AAV. Nick is
looking at his camera equipment.
Nick: Do you see any family resemblance here?
He turns to Eddie. Eddie makes a hand gesture to indicate "a very little".
Cut to: Inside the trailer.
Kelly: (to her Dad) You practically told me to come here!
Malcolm: I, I, What?!
Kelly: You said to me, "Don’t listen to me". I thought you were, like trying to
tell me something..
Malcolm: Oh, Kelly, Kelly! You knew exactly what I was talking about! You have
no idea what is going on here!
Harding: What are you going to do? Lock her up for curiosity? Where do you
think she gets it?
Kelly: Thank You, Sarah.
Malcolm: Hey! Don’t start the teaming up thing about this! (to Sarah) Out of
the conversation! Please, really. EDDIE!
Carr: What?!
Malcolm: Why in the hell doesn’t this thing ever work?
Harding: (to Kelly) You really came all this way in that trailer?
Kelly: YA! It was great! Just like staying in a flying hotel!
Carr: (to Ian) You know, it’s not a land line. Your not in a phone booth! You’ve
got to wait for a decent signal!
Malcolm bangs on the phone.
Carr: Violence and Technology!! NOT good bedfellows!
Harding: The kind of documentation Hammond wants is you and your equipment in
the field, as close to the animals as safely possible.
Malcolm: YA, that’s a great idea! And while your at it, why don’t you smear
yourself with a little sheep’s blood! Eddie?! Ah, is there reason to think that
the radio in the trailer might work? You know! Don’t tease me, if..
Carr: If you feel just not qualified at all, you might try flicking the switch
to ON.
Malcolm: OK, listen, listen! I’m tired and I’m taking my daughter out of here!
Ah, anybody who wants to come with me, this is your last chance to get out!
Harding: So, listen. When your out in the field, nothing we do can leave any
room for people to say our findings are contaminated.
Malcolm: So, Nick; if your staying, I’d be happy to deliver a letter to your
wife or your loved one to give you a chance to say goodbye to her, OK?
Harding: Once the Research Community smells blood in the water; you’re dead! We
use no scent of any kind. No insect repellent. No hair tonic. No Cologne.
Malcolm: Eddie, you have any personal effects of any kind? Ya know, it’s the
least I can do. I’ll be in there! (points towards the trailer)
Harding: We seal all our food in plastic bags. Our presence needs to be 100
percent antiseptic!
Malcolm leads Kelly into the trailer.
Harding: If we so much as bend a blade of grass..
Interior of the trailer. It looks as if a tornado has struck; litter and trash
strewn everywhere.
Kelly: Dad, are you mad?
Malcolm: No, I’m not mad! I’m furious! (looks around at the mess) What is
this?! It looks like your room!
Kelly: I was going to clean it up.
Malcolm: Right Now!
Kelly starts picking up trashed food and drink containers. Malcolm looks to the
Communications equipment as Harding enters the trailer.
Malcolm: What is this! Eddie! Eddie! There’s a hundred switches!
Harding: Ian, don’t be mad. I was going to call you in a day or two to let you
know where I was. I always do, don’t I? Come on! I’m the best kind of girlfriend
there is; one who travels a lot! You like that, right? You love your
independence.
Malcolm: Well, I’ve gotten used to being apart; but that doesn’t mean that
that’s how I want to live, you know! Kelly, Kelly, this is tall talk. (points to
the door) Just for a minute.
Kelly: It’s like a height requirement at an amusement park!
Kelly moves towards the door, but doesn’t exit.
Harding: If you wanted to rescue me from something, why didn’t you bail me out
of that fund raiser at the Museum three weeks ago, like you said you would?
Malcolm: Ah, there’s a slightly different situation.
Harding: Or, why not rescue me from that dinner with your parents that you
never showed up for? Or why not rescue me when I really need it; actually be
there when you say you will? You know, I have made a career out of waiting for
you.
Kelly: You know, Sarah has a pretty good point...
Malcolm: It’s SO important to your future that you NOT finish that sentence.
Please. Privacy! Outside!
Kelly again moves towards the door, but doesn’t exit.
Harding: Ian! Come on, come on, ah. Look; I love that you rode in here on a
white horse. I really do! It’s very touching. Very romantic. I just need you to
show up in a cab every once in awhile too!
Kelly opens the door to leave.
Malcolm: Kelly! Kelly! What are you doing?! No, No, No! Hey! Hey! Don’t go out
there, it’s not safe! Stay in here! Come back! Shut the door.
Harding: OK, I know what I’m doing. Ah, you guys should definitely go! But I’m
gonna stay. I love you. I just don’t need you right now.
Malcolm: I’ll tell you what you need, ah, a good anti-psychotic.
Harding: I’ll be back in 5 or 6 days.
Malcolm: You’ll be back in 5 or 6 pieces!
Harding: What bothers you is that I’m not afraid of this place! And you are!
Thwup, thwup, thwup
Malcolm: Of course I am! That’s the whole thing! All I want is for you to come
back.
THWUP, THWUP, THWUP
Kelly: Hey! What’s that sound?
As the three look out of the trailer window they see a squadron of helicopters
arriving at the Island, some of them airlifting vehicles.
Malcolm, Harding, and Kelly race out of the trailer to join VanOwen and Carr
viewing the helicopters.
Malcolm: Here we go! (starts waving to the helicopters) I’ll get you out on one
of these, right now! HELLO! HELLO! OVER HERE!
Carr: (taking binoculars away from his eyes) I don’t get it. IT SAYS INGEN ON
THE SIDE OF THAT CHOPPER!! I don’t get that! Why would Hammond send two teams?!
Malcolm runs towards Carr to use the binoculars, dragging Kelly along.
Kelly: Cut the umbilical, Dad!
Harding: (running towards the others) Doesn’t he trust us?! We haven’t even
started!
Cut to: A large number of off-road vehlichles-Hummers,jeeps,motorcycles and
various others modified by Ingen-are making their way through a field devoid
of any plant life. This is the game trail, where the Tyrannosaurs and other
predators chase herds of other, herbivourous dinosaurs. The devastation
caused by such hunts has resulted in a somewhat out-of-place blanket of dirt.
Leading the hunter convoy is a small jeep with a small camo-net placed
over it's back. In the back,Peter Ludow is talking into his headset,
struggling to communicate through the roar of the dozen engines.
"This is as good as any spot for base camp." Ludow yells. "First
priority after we're done is the laser barriers. I want them all up and
running in thirty minutes. That's half an hour!"
Suddenly, the camo net is lifted, revealing none other than Roland
Tembo. "Cancel that order."He demands.
"Why?" Ludow asks.
"This is a game trail, Mr. Ludow. Carnivores hunt on game trails. Do you
want to set up base camp or a buffet?" He asks.
"Let's find a new spot!"Ludow says into the headset."
Tembo cuts in. "Peter, if you want me to run your little camping trip,
there are two conditions. First-I'm in charge, and when I'm anot around
Dietar is.Your job is to sign the checks, tell us we're doing a good job,
and open your case of scotch when we have a good day."
"Second condition. My fee-you can keep it. All I want in exchange for
my services is to hunt one of the tyrannosaurs. A male. Buck only. Why and
how are my business, so if you don't these conditions, you're on your own.
So set up base camp here,or in a swamp, or in the middle of a rex nest for
all I care, but I've been on to many safaris with rich dentists to listen to
any more suicidal ideas,ok?"
Ludow is frozen for a minute, but then gives the thumbs up. "Ok!"
A motorcycle and a slightly-modified Humvee literally jump over a small
hill. When they land, they land straight in the middle of a Dinosaur
stampede. Gallimimus, Parasaurolophuses, and Pachycephalosaurs run for
cover. "The herd has been sighted" Roland reports, rising out of the jeep.
"Cycle, break a stray from the herd and flush him right!"
Roland reads a detailed phamphet withp pictures of the dinosaurs. "It'll
be a pacha-" The wind causes Roland to lose his page. "The pachy--" Roland
just throws the entire panthlet back into the jeep. "Oh,hell! The fat head
with the bald spot!Friar Tuck!"
A motorcycle breaks from the convoy and starts to chase one of the
pachycephalosaurs.A group of massive Mamenchiasaurs suddenly emerges from
the forest to join the stampede. The cyclist uneffortlessly weaves
underneath the massive bellies of the behemoths.
Meanwhile, Ludow is transfixed by the beauty of the stampede. He clasps
his hand and laughs.
The cyclist has managed to isolate the Pachy from the herd, and now, a
jeep has joined it. A group of four men, lassos and tasers in hand, attempt
to harnass the bone-headed creature.
Another jeep stops by, and out comes Robert Burke-a respected
paleontologist-and Ingen's dinosaur advisor for this trip- and the field
veteranarian. "Pachycephalosaurus!" Burke exclaims.
"Carnivore?"The vet asks.
"No,herbivore." Burke looks at the struggling group. "See that distinctive
dome? That's nine inches of solid bone! The pachy's neck attaches to the
bottom of it's skull instead of the back of it's head, as with reptiles. So
when it lowers it's head,it's neck lines up directly with the backbone." He
makes an imitating gesture with his hands- "-which is perfect for absorbing
impact."
As if reading Burke's thoughts, the Pachy rams the jeep, sending the
driver out into the dirt and loosening a door. It turns toward Burke and the
vet, and begins to charge-and the two humans run toward their jeep.
Tembo's jeep arrives at the scene, and speaks into his headset. "Snagger,
Friar Tucks on the loose-coming your way."
An elaborate, heavily modified Humvee with a large "Claw"-like device
drives toward the pachy. A series of outrigger seats extend from it.The
Pachy attempts to run, but is caught hopelessly in the lasso of one of the
hunters. Another fires a small cable which also attaches to the
pachycephalosaur. The "Claw" starts to extend from the Humvee, until it has
the Pachy within it's grasp. A series of baloons then inflate, and the
struggling pachy is helpless.
Up above, in the cliffs, Ian, Sarah, Nick, Eddie, and Kelly look on.
With the Pachy captured, Roland goes on to other business. "Dietar-get
into the outrigger, you're closing in on a Parasaurolosaur!" He says through
the headset.
In another jeep, we see Dietar Stark, South african hunter, carrying a huge
tranq gun in his arms.Driving the jeep is carter, a mexican. "Say that
again, Roland-- a what?"
"The one with the big red horn-the pompadour...Elvis!!" Roland says.
Dietar gives a light hearted-laugh, and then gestures to Carter to extend
the outrigger.
A male Parasaurlophus is attempting to run from Dietar's jeep, but Dietar
fires his tranq dart, and the parasaur slows down. A group of jeeps arrive
at the scene, including Rolands-and attempt to harnass the mighty beast. "Go
for the legs!" Dietar instructs. "Watch the tail!"
Suddenly, the Parasaurlophus swings it's head up, taking two of the hunters
attempting to snare it flying into the air. Another tug on the legs of the
Parasaur, and it goes down, emmiting a call of distress.
High in the cliffs, the team watches in disgust. They can't let the
creatures be treated like this. They need to do something.
Cut To: Night. Dietar and Roland stare into a large puddle on the ground.
We can see their reflections in the water. Roland calls: "Burke! Come here!"
Burke comes running over. "You recognize this trackway?".
Burke instantly responds: "Yes I do.. Tyranosaur".
Roland is assembling/loading his elephant gun by vehicle. Another vehicle
pulls up. The passenger, Peter Ludlow, gets out.
Ludlow: Ah! Roland!
Roland walks off toward woods. Ludlow follows.
Ludlow: Roland! Hey! Where do you think you're going?
Roland: To collect my fee, Mr. Ludlow. To collect my fee.
Ludlow steps in something, stops. Roland continues on into woods. Ludlow looks
down to see what he stepped in - a Tyrannosaur track. Dieter, sitting by a tree
stump, pours water from his bottle over his head and neck. Suddendly, a Compy
appears by his foot. It chirps at him. He pulls out an extendible hand-held
taser rod and prepares to shock the Compy.
Dr. Burke comes running up.
Burke: Oh my God! Procompsognathus Triassicus. Found by Frass in
Bavaria, 1913.
Compy stays, still chirping
Dieter: Is it dangerous?
Burke: Uh - Nah, I wouldn't think so.
Compy sniffing Dieter's Boot.
Burke: Compys have been presumed to be scavengers, like jackals.
Dieter: Gives me the creeps. It's like it's not scared.
Burke: There haven't been any visitors to this island. There's no
reason for it to fear man.
Deiter shocks the Compy with the taser. Sparks fly. Compy runs off into woods.
Dieter: (Looking at Burke) Now it does.
Roland and Ajay, guns in hand, cautiously approach the Tyrannosaur nest.
Decomposing carcasses of eaten animals strewn about. Thick blanket of buzzing
flies surrounds entire area.
They crouch down and observe an infant T-rex in the center of the nest, eating
the remains of an animal.
Roland: (whispering) It's the Rex nest. Infant's probably only a couple of
weeks old. Never left the nest.
Infant looks up toward Roland and Ajay. Roland turns to look behind them,
surveying for any signs of the parents.
Roland: Offspring that young, parents won't leave him alone for too
long.
Ajay: Make your blind here, wait for the buck to return.
Infant resumes eating.
Roland: No. No. The nest is upwind, and so are we. When he comes
back, he's gonna know we're here without us even having a chance. The
trick is... to get him to come where we want him..
Cut to: Night. Infant T-rex is now in a different clearing in the woods,
tied down on it's side. One of it's legs is injured.
Infant wails loudly. Roland and Ajay perched in a tree nearby, both wearing
camouflage netting. They look around, awaiting the infant's father.
The baby Tyrannosaur flicks its tail in frustration. In silence, Roland and Ajay
look back over their shoulders to peer behind them.
Cut to: The camera moves out of the darkness to look down a small, cascading
waterfall. The view moves out of the shadows, revealing the InGen base camp.
Several tents surround the area. A small fire burns in a clearing.
Ian, Nick, Sarah, Kelly, and Eddie peer over a fern-covered hillside at the camp
below. Workers still bustle among the tents. Sarah slowly walks over to Ian, her
eyes still fixed on the camp. Ian reaches up and gestures her to sit down beside
him. Sarah crouches down. Eddie peers through a scope, while Nick looks through
a large pair of large binoculars, at the well-lit camp. Nick lowers his
binoculars, but continues to look. Ian and Kelly lie side by side on the
hillside, peering.
Ian: (Whisper) "This is why Hammond was in such a hurry to get you here. He knew
they were coming."
Eddie Carr: "My God, they are well organized. (Shaking his head lightly) Those
are some major league toys."
An oversized InGen Jeep, with a large satellite dish on top, sits beside a large
tent.
Ian: "Eddie, maybe I should ask to use their phone. Their dish is bigger that
yours."
Kelly raises her head interrogatively.
Kelly: "So they actually want to build a park here, after what you said happened
on the other island?"
Ian frowns seriously.
Ian: They're not building anything. They're taking these animals outta here.....
back to the mainland."
A Soft Roaring is heard.
Sarah looks up with a look of worry on her face. A soft breeze blows, rustling
the leaves in the forest behind her. View switches to Nick. He looks up.
Nick Van Owen: "Uh, I think I should tell you guys. Hammond told me these people
might show up."
Nick reaches into a leather bag and pulls something out. He lifts the object
into the light, revealing that it's a pair of red-handled bolt cutters.
Nick: "I thought we'd be finished by the time they got started, but, in case
they weren't, he did send a backup plan."
Ian, Sarah, and Eddie look at Nick.
Sarah: "What backup plan?"
Nick: "Me."
He takes the handles off of the bolt cutter and puts them, along with the top
half, into his pocket. The camera view changes to reveal a part of the campsite.
A large tent is surrounded by people. Large cargo boxes marked "InGen" sit
within it. The large Jeep with the satellite dish can be plainly seen. People
bustle all around it. The camera begins to draw closer to the tent.
Ludlow: "Simply put, InGen is seeking limited partners to defray some of our
expansion costs.
The camera moves toward the tent, revealing Peter Ludlow giving a public speech.
He walks around the tent as he talks. A large model lies on a table in the
middle of the tent.
Ludlow: "The prospectus you've been given by the board, explicity details, our
projected hardware and construction expenses, and as you can see by my to
friends here with me tonight......"
Ludlow crouches down beside a pair of cages, each one holding a Compy.
Ludlow: "... the software is already fully developed."
View changes to a pair of televisions sets, one with Ludlow and the two Compy
cages, and the other, with A long table surrounded by men in business suits. The
second screen flashes with static. Ludlow gets very close to the small cage.
Ludlow: "One might say, It'd be up and running. (Chuckles softly; long pause) In
a moment, I'll take you on a stroll through the camp, and you'll see some of the
larger and more impressive specimens."
The view changes to a well lit section of the campsite, turning the evening fog
into a blue mist. Sarah and Nick emerge from the shadows behind a tent.
Sarah: "Wow."
The view angles down to a huge cage, in which a Stegosaurus is trapped. The
animal continues to breathe heavily. Nick and Sarah walk to the side of the
cage, staring at the animal. The Stego turns its head around and looks at them,
then loudly roars.
Nick and Sarah walk around to the front of the cage, lifting a large pin out of
the cage lock. They slowly open the gate. It creaks.
The view shifts back to the tent, in which Ludlow is still giving his speech. A
cameraman stands in front of the tent, filming the oral presentation. Ludlow
stands behind the table now, looking down upon the model.
Ludlow: "But you don't bring people half way around the world to visit a zoo.
You bring the zoo to them. San Diego is the perfect set. People already
associate her beautiful city with animal attractions. (Ludlow begins to walk
around the table) San Diego Zoo, Sea World, San Diego Chargers...."
View goes to Sarah an Nick, now releasing the dinosaurs. Nick unlocks a cage
with a small Triceratops inside. Then he walks over to a larger cage holding a
Pachycephelosaur. The Pachy bleats, then roars loudly. Nick pulls the cage's
pin. Many dinosaurs noisily squeal in the background. Nick runs quickly over to
a cage that Sarah is opening up. A baby Stegosaurus stands inside. She opens
the gate.
Nick and Sarah jet over to a very large cage. Inside stands an enormous
Triceratops.
It snorts, sending a cloud of steam into the air. Nick hesitates. The lock on
the cage isn't like the others. Nick pulls out the pair of bolt cutters and
begins to snip the lock.
The camera view changes to a large painting of the Jurassic Park: San Diego
Amphitheater.
Peter Ludlow: "Mr. Hammond knew this."
Peter steps out in front of the painting.
Ludlow: "Before he ever dreamt of an island, (View turns to another painting) he
began construction on an amphitheater...... very near to where you're sitting
right now at the InGen Waterfront Complex."
Ludlow: "But, he abandoned it in favor of something far grander.... and
ultimately.... impossible.
Peter Ludlow slowly moves around the table, holding his coffee cup.
Ludlow: "And so, the facility sits unused, unfinished, when it could be
completed and ready to receive visitors in less than a month."
Suddenly, the huge head of a Triceratops bursts through the back of the tent,
sending paintings into the air.
The table in the middle of the tent turns over, spilling the model everywhere.
The Triceratops rampages through the tent and rams into the side of an InGen
Jeep with its horns, causing it to flip over. The shot changes to a different
view of the Tric. It lifts it's head into the air and roars. It turns around and
wanders away. Three small compys quickly run into the view, followed by three
screaming men being chased by a Parasaurolophus.
Men run everywhere. A Gallimimus quickly runs across the campsite. A
Pachycephalosaur chases after some of the men, now fleeing for safety. In the
background, a fire spreads to the overturned Jeep, causing it to explode,
sending it into the air.
Sitting in a treetop away from the camp, Ajay and Roland Tembo turn around after
hearing the explosion. The flying Jeep is heading toward them. The whistle of
the falling vehicle can be heard in the background.
Roland: Ajay, look out! Jump!
Roland and Ajay jump onto the ground, just as the burning jeep crashes into the
top of the tree. It rolls down the trunk to slam into the ground, inches away
from the two men.
Scene changes to Nick Van Owen running toward the baby T-Rex, still tied down.
Nick bends down, touching the animal and looking at it closely. He gets up and
walks around the baby. He grabs one of the pins that is holding it down, and
slowly pulls it out of the ground.
View flashes to two men helping Dieter Stark get up from the damp ground while
looking up at Roland Tembo.
Dieter stands, looking at Roland.
Roland: "That's the last time I leave you in charge."
Fires burn in the background as Roland and Ajay walk away. Dieter stands,
dumbfounded.
Close up of Sarah. She looks to her right to see Nick wading in water. He walks
up to the shore carrying a baby T-Rex. Baby T-Rex is wailing in pain. Sara
walks up to Nick.
Sara: Nick, Nick, oh my god, are you out of your mind.
They walk to the jeep towards the camera.
Nick: She’s got a broken leg let’s get in the car before they hear us.
Sara: Are you out of your mind? Do you have any idea what that is?
Nick: Open the door.
Sara opens the jeep door and then Nick puts the baby T-Rex into the back seat.
Sara: You’re nuts!
Nick: That’s it...
Sarah looks at towards camera looking concerned.
Sara: Oh man, Ian’s not going to like this!
Cut to: Dieter Stark standing beside an empty Triceratops cage examining the
broken lock. Roland + Aljay walk up Dieter gives Roland the lock Roland
examines it.
Peter walks up.
Peter: What’s going on?
Roland: Isn’t it obvious
He walks towards the camera
Roland: We’re not alone on this island
He throws down the lock and it lands in a pile of smouldering coals.
Cut to: Inside shot of the trailer with main lights off. Malcolm walks in with
Kelly behind him. Kelly turns on the lights. Malcolm walks over to the radio to
examine it and try to get it to work.
Malcolm: It’s not set to the frequencies.
Malcolm takes of his coat. Kelly opens a compartment, pulls out a book and
hands it to Malcolm.
Kelly: Look here..
Malcolm looks at it anxiously
Cut to: Shot of jeep letting out rope. Shot of Eddie getting the high hide
organized. A car with 8 headlights approaches. As it comes nearer he watches
it. The baby T-Rex is moaning in pain from inside the jeep. As the jeep
passes the camera Eddie takes a few steps towards the camera
Eddie: What the hell was that??!
Cut to: Shot of Malcolm trying to get radio to work. Kelly is watching and
having a drink. Noise-Radio frequencies
Malcolm: Okay, that’s right here.. uh... Hello?
Lady: Hola?
Malcolm: Uh Hola?
Kelly: Buenos Dias
Lady: Enrique, Estas. Con una Mujer?
Malcolm: No, not Enrique, It’s Ian Malcolm, Are you on the boat?
Lady: Enrique?
Malcolm: No, is this the boat?
Lady: Con, quien estas?
Malcolm: We’re on island sorna, we need to talk to the boat. Man Del Plata,
Ma’am.
Cut to: Shot of jeep pulling up into clearing. Sara and Nick get out. They get
the Rex out. Nick is holding it.
Nick: I’ll get him. That’s it I gotcha.
Sara: Hurry up Nick..
Nick: I got him, Let’s go, go go go. Come on.
The baby T-Rex wails in pain.
Nick: Watch his tail, get the door.
Cut to: Inside trailer. Malcolm is still trying to get the radio to work
right.
Kelly: (listenting to the radio) Boy is she mad at you..
Malcolm: I feel sorry for that guy Enrique.
Sarah and Nick enter..
Sarah: Ian no lectures, Please. Kelly stay back honey.
Sarah: Don’t stand up OK. Watch his head.
Nick: I got him.
Sarah: Careful no, no
Malcolm: No, No honey..
Nick: Watch his head
Sarah: Ian he’s hurt
Malcolm: No, no honey no.
Sarah: Nick, I’m gonna get the cable
Nick: Watch his tail.
Sarah gets a table ready.
Nick: He’s swinging it all over the place
Sarah: You're all right
Nick: OK, yeah. I got him. Got him?
Sarah: Yeah
They put the baby T-Rex down on the table.
Sarah: OK there you go. There you go.
Malcolm: What do I have to do? Beat it with a stick? Don’t go to close honey.
Don’t stand to close.
Malcolm: goes back over to the radio which has started up again.
Lady: Enrique? Donde Estas Eurique?
Malcolm: No, no. Lady enough. Wrong frequency. My god.
Kelly looking scared.
Sara: Nick don’t let him get those things around you.
Rex tries to bite Nick.
Sara starts to get out equipment .
T-Rex is wailing.
Sara: Let’s take a look at this.
Nick: Easy....
Nick puts his belt around the baby T-Rex’s snout like a nusel.
Sara: OK here are the metatarsals
Sara is looking at an X-ray screen at the baby’s leg
Nick: That’s is, That’s it
Sara: And tibia, fibula, there it is, there’s the fracture right above the
epiphysis.
Nick: How bad is it?
Sara: If we don’t set it, this baby is going to die. The fibia won’t heal
straight. It won’t be able to pivot on its ankle bone. He won’t be able to run
or even walk or even run. A predator will pick him of.
Malcolm looks mad while still looking at the radio.
Malcolm: No, Uh Um Carlos come in. Godam it. You bastard listen!!
T-Rex is growling
Kelly: Other animals are going to here this
Malcolm: Come in please. Can you here me?
Kelly: Dad I gotta get out of here. I want to get out of here.
Malcolm: I’m calling the boat, honey.
Kelly: I wan to go someplace else please. I don’t want to be here I wantto gosomewhere safe.
Malcolm-Isn’t it safe here honey?
Kelly: I want to go somewhere high...
Cut to: High Hide, ground level. Eddie looking around anxiously
inside the Hide.
Eddie: What? What? What is it? What’s goin’ on? What’s goin’ on? (Ian and
Kelly approach the Hide and get in) Information please!! What?!
Ian: You’ll be much happier not knowing. C’mon, get us up...let’s go!
The high hide begins to go upwards, into the treetops
Ian: There we go.
Kelly: (very concerned) This is stupid, I shouldn’t have come
along. This is stupid!
Cut to: Trailer with Nick and Sarah working on the baby Rex’s leg.
Nick: (firmly holding the Rex’s mouth) Can you set it?
Sarah: Yeah, I think I need something that’ll break apart and fall
off as he grows.
Nick: Well, whenever you’re ready, cause he’s fighting me here Dr.
Quinn.
Cut to: High Hide, high up in the treetops. Eddie, Ian and Kelly
all look around from the height nervously.
Ian: All right! There we go. Eddie, what’s the. . .what’s the
frequency of the boat by the way?
Eddie: 15 trip eights. . .it’s third from the top!
Ian: OK. (Turns to Kelly) OK, we’re high, and, uh, this is the
safest place you can be, I think. These plants make it so the
animals won’t even know you’re here.
Kelly: You’re just trying to make me feel better. I remember all
those stories you told.
Ian: Oh, no, no, this is nothing like that, this is a completely
different situation.
Eddie, Ian and Kelly all turn quickly as they hear a loud roar from
a distance. Ian calmly turns off the light.
Ian: (concerned) Is there any way we can communicate with the
trailer?
Eddie hands him a phone, but says nothing, he just stares at the
area the roar came from.
Cut to: Trailer, Sarah is working on the Rex, as Nick holds it down.
Nick: He’s moving again, give him more morphine.
Sarah: You have no idea what his metabolism is, you’ll put him into
respiratory arrest.
The phone begins to ring in the trailer. Nick begins to walk
towards the phone to answer it.
Sarah: (stopping Nick’s path to the phone) Nick! I need your
hand here. (Nick goes back to the lab table) Right here, put
some pressure there!
Cut to: High Hide, Ian on the phone.
Ian: (annoyed) No answer. . .what a suprise! (He walks to the
edge and looks over it) How do I get down?
Eddie: (handing Ian a belt) Tie this belt around your---
Kelly: Where are you going dad? I thought you were staying here!
C’mon, stay here dad, please! Dad, what’re you doing?
Ian: How does this thing work?
Eddie: Squeeze the rope here, the harder you squeeze, the slower
you go. You don’t squeeze at all--
Ian: (cutting Eddie off): I got the idea!
Kelly: Dad, stay here, please!
Ian: Honey, the queen, the goddess. . . .
Kelly: Your inspiration?
Ian: (smiling) Now you’re talking! (Ian climbs over the edge of the
Hide and hangs there for a moment) I’m coming right back. I give
you my word.
Kelly: (scared and annoyed) But you never keep your word!
A baffled Ian lets himself down. He hits the ground with a loud
sound, a *boom*.
Eddie: (looking over the edge at Ian) Personally. . .I woulda’
squeezed just a little bit harder.
Cut to: Trailer. Sarah is setting the Rex’s cast, as Nick looks on
behind her.
Sarah: OK, I’m almost finished. . .dammit!! I need another
adhesive, something pliable, that I can--- (she trails off)
Sarah listens to Nick chewing his gum, loudly.
Sarah: (putting out her hand to Nick) Spit.
Nick pits a big wad of saliva into her hand.
Sarah: (disgusted) Your gum!!! (wipes saliva on Nick’s jacket)
Nick hands Sarah his gum and she puts it onto the cast as the baby
continues to moan.
Cut to: High Hide, Eddie and Kelly both look scared.
Both Eddie and Kelly watch the trees get trampled on as two large
creatures move through the forest.
Cut to: Ian, running alone, in the forest, towards the trailer.
Cut to: Trailer, Sarah and Nick are in it with the Rex.
Sarah: Get the bottle of amoxacilin, and fill the syringe.
The phone begins to ring, again.
Sarah: A quick injection of anti-biotics, and I can get him out of
here.
Cut to: Ian running to the door of the trailer.
Cut to: Trailer door, in the trailer.
Ian: (flinging the door open) For once in your life, would it kill
you to pick it up? (he slams the door shut, and runs over to Nick
and Sarah at the lab table) Help me get this thing outta here!
(he grabs the baby)
Sarah: (frantically) No, no. . .we just set it!
She is cutoff by a loud *bang* outside, which causes all three of
them to be absolutely silent, and look outside, through the window.
As they watch, they see one of their two cars fly across the screen,
rolling. As the car goes over the cliff, there is a very loud *bang*
when it hits the ground.
Ian: (turning to the other two) Mommy’s very angry. (he turns
back and looks out of the window)
The other two begin to watch out of the close window. As Ian
approaches the close window, an adult T-Rex appears in the far
window, behind the three people. The adult Rex lets out a soft,
but stern call, which causes all of them to turn and look at it.
Behind them, now, in the close window, alongside the trailer, another
adult Rex emerges, and it looks at it’s baby, through the window.
The three humans are all backed up against the back wall/window,
trying not to be seen by the Rexes. The T-Rex closest to Sarah lets
out a very loud roar, causing Sarah to scream out of fright. The
adult Rex then bumps the trailer with its head.
Sarah: (scared, and breathing heavily) This isn’t hunting behavior,
Ian, not hunting. They’re searching. . .they came for their infant!
Ian: (lifting baby Rex) Let’s not disappoint them.
Sarah: (going around the table) Let me get his head. . .careful!
I got him.
The three begin walking towards the door, with Sarah holding the baby
Rex.
Nick: Muzzle off. (he takes the muzzle off of the baby Rex’s mouth
and the baby Rex lets out a loud cry)
As the three humans walk towards the door, the adult Rexes watch
carefully through the windows. The humans get to the door, and
Ian opens it for Sarah. Sarah walks out, while the two men stay
inside the trailer. She releases the baby, and starts to smile.
Ian pulls her back into the trailer, as she appears excited.
He shuts the door carefully, and as silently as possible.
Sarah looks through the door window at the adult Rexes with
their baby. The phone begins to ring again.
Cut to: High Hide, Eddie is on the phone with Kelly next to him.
Ian: (on the other end of the phone) Yes, Eddie?
Eddie: Yeah, uhm, they’re going back to the jungle.
Ian: Oh, yes, I see, uh, how’s Kelly?
Eddie: Uh, she’s fine, she’s right here. (Eddie hands the phone to
Kelly)
Kelly: Hello?
Ian: Kelly, how are you? You OK?
Kelly: Yeah, I’m good.
Ian: OK, listen, stay right where you are, don’t move. I’m gonna
be right back up, understand? Don’t move!
Kelly: I understand. (hands phone to Eddie)
Cut to: Trailer. Ian is next to the radio transmitter, Nick and
Sarah are sitting down nearby.
Ian: (hanging up the phone) Y’know, I begged people to listen to
me, I used plain, simple English--
Sarah: (cutting him off) Awww, shut up!
Ian: So that should make an interesting chapter in your book, huh?
Sarah: I think the debate over the parental instincts of a T-Rex is
now. . . academic.
Ian smiles after she says that, but the smile soon turns to a look of
concern when he looks out of the window.
Ian: (standing up) Hang on--this is gonna be bad.
Ian looking out the window sees the T-Rexs are coming back. The Trailer is hit
hard...Crash!! Ian, Sarah, and Nick go flying. The get up as glass is shattering
around them. They realize they are standing on the roof.
Cut to: Outside the trailer. The rain is coming down hard, the trailer is
sliding left and right in the mud as the 2 T-Rexs push it. Ian is looking out
the window trying to figure out what is going on. Roars are heard in the
background. The trailer is being pushed towards the edge of the cliff while
Ian looks out.
Cut to: Inside the trailer, where Ian is staring at Sarah.
Ian : They’re pushing over the cliff!
Sarah: Oh my god...
Cut to: Front windshield of trailer. The glass shatters and pieces of glass go
flying as the 2 T-Rexs bump the window. With a load ROAR!
Cut to: Outside of trailer, as the wheels are lifted up into the air and the
trailer slides closer to the cliff. You can hear metal grinding as the trailer
slides.
Cut to: Inside of trailer with Nick and Ian at one of the doors...
Nick: (pushing hard on the door) COME ON! COME ON!
Ian: Once we’re out of here? (Starts pushing on the door.)
Nick: Straight through the woods! (still trying to push the door open.)
Ian: Straight through the woods. COME ON! COME ON! COME ON! (trying to push
the door open with nick.)

a hold of... The refrigerator door Sarah is holding onto opens and throws
her towards the rear window.
Sarah: IAN!!!!!AHHHH!!!! (she screams as she goes falling down the inside of the
trailer. Landing hard on the rear window with a loud THUNK!)
Cut to: Looking in through the rear window at nick..
Nick: Sarah!! (camera puts nick out of focus, focusing on Sarah Laying pressed
against the glass breathing heavily.)
Cut to: Overhead view of Nick and Ian looking down on Sarah. A paper cups falls
landing on top of her lucky backpack laying by her side.
Nick and Ian: Sarah!
Cut to: Looking up through glass at Sarah. Sarah starts to panic as she is
looking down through the window at the shores hundreds of feet below her. The
sound of glass cracking is heard quietly over her heavy breathing.
Sarah: God! Oh God! Please! (Says as she is trying to get up glass is cracking
under her.)
Cut to: Shot of Sarah’s hand as the glass cracks under it. The moves out to full
view of her with glass cracking all around her.
Cut to: Nick and Ian looking down on Sarah
Nick: Don’t Move!
Ian: I’m coming down for ya. Here I come, stay still..(Sarah crying.) Sarah,
Here I come. (Ian starts climbing down the inside of the trailer.) Nick!?
Nick: Ya?
Ian: The satellite phone, get it!
Nick: OK.(Starts climbing down the inside of trailer with Ian, so he can get the
phone)

Cut to: Looking through glass at Sarah. Ian is now down at the bottom with her.
Ian is reaching for Sarah.
Ian: Just give me your hand. (extending arm to Sarah.)
Sarah: Ah..
Ian: Just give me your hand honey.
Sarah: ah.. (still trying to reach for side of trailer.)
Ian: Sarah, Sarah (Ian looks over to his right and sees the lucky backpack. He
tries to get Sarah to notice it.)
Cut to: Nick barely knicking the strap of the phone. Ian is heard in the
background slightly over Nick’s grunting "Sarah give me your hand honey, come
on." The strap slips off the edge of the lamp, falling towards the window...
Nick: HEADS UP!!!
Cut to: On top of the glass with Sarah and Ian. The phone comes flying by
shattering the window.. Ian grabs Sarah’s lucky backpack.
Sarah: ahh!!!! (Sarah grabs the backpack also as she starts to fall.)
Cut to: Looking over Ian’s shoulder as he is holding on to the backpack with one
hand straining to hold on. Sarah is screaming while she falls still
holding the backpack.

Eddie: Wait! Wait.. Hold on I’m coming. I’m Coming!
Cut to: Inside of trailer looking at the computer screen status of the trailer.
The whole side of trailer where Ian, Nick, and Sarah are is flashing red saying
Warning all the numbers are flashing red. Camera moves towards the door on Eddie
trying to pull open the door.
Eddie: I’m coming.. (still pulling on door) God damnit! (Eddie runs around to
the front of the trailer.)
Cut to: Inside trailer Eddie is climbing through the broken front windshield.
"I’M coming! What did this??" Eddie runs towards the end of the first
trailer.
Cut to: Other trailer where Ian, Sarah, and Nick are.
Ian: Kelly! What did you do with Kelly??
Cut to: Back inside first trailer with Eddie.

not making it. He tries again making it this time and locks the rope with the hook.
He runs towards the trailer throwing the rope through the front windshield
and climbs in after it. He grabs the rope and runs towards the opening to the
second trailer.
Eddie: Hold on! I’M coming! I’m Coming!
Ian: Bring the rope! Lets go.

Ian: now now. There, yeah.
Nick: Eddie you all right? We need rope!
Eddie: There! (throws rope to Ian who catches it.)

car with a roar and a loud crunch, ripping off the roof. Eddie inside the car
screams ducking down in the car. One of the Rex rips off the door. Eddie is still
inside trying to move the car. He stops and reaches for the tranquilizer riffle.
He continues to try to pull the riffle out as the T-Rex comes down and rips out
the front drivers seat and the airbag opens up. Eddie screams again, while the
other T-Rex roars.
Cut to: The rifle Eddie is pulling is hooked on some netting in the car. Eddie
is screaming "god help us!" Eddie kicks at the T-Rex. The Rex bends down
grabbing Eddie’s leg in his jaw and lifts him up in the air.
Eddie: AHH!!!!!!!!!!!! (as the Rex lifts him in the air.)
Cut to: The Rex throw Eddie up in the air like a rag doll. While in the air the
2 Rexs bite into him fighting over him, both pulling they rip his body in half.

down along the side of the cliff landing on a giant rock on the shore
hundreds off feet below. BOOM!!! Trailing behind the trailer is Eddie’s car still
hooked to the back by the tow cable, which falls into the fire below causing a
second explosion. BOOM!! The 2 huge explosions below them lights up the side of
the cliff, and forms a gigantic mushroom cloud of fire and smoke. The 3 look down
as springs and parts come flying by clanking hard on the cliff. Out of the
giant black cloud a tire comes flying up almost touching Ian’s feet. A metal washer
clanks by the side of Sarah and the tire goes falling back into the giant cloud. As the
smoke is clearing Ian, Sarah, and Nick look up the cliff as the rain is
poring in their faces.
Cut to: Muddy cliff edge where all there is, is the rope hanging over the edge,
as Sarah’s hand pops up. As she is pulling herself up she looks up, and sees a
hand offering help. She takes the hand and is pulled up. The Hunters then help up
Nick, followed by Ian. The 3, tired, and cold kneeling in the mud look up at the
hunters. Kelly comes running pushing through them. Runs through the mud and drops to
hug her dad.
The survivors of the two separate catastrophes are assembled at the Hunters
Camp. Tembo is surveying the broken equipment.
Tembo - Our communications equipment has been destroyed. And if your radio and
satellite phone were in those trailers that went over the cliff.
Malcolm: They were.
Tembo: Then we're stuck here ladies and gentlemen! And, stuck together thanks to
you people! (pointing at the Gatherers and Stark)
VanOwen: Hey! We came here to watch! You came here to strip-mine the place!
Stark: Back Off!
Ludlow: At least we came prepared.
Malcolm: Since your prepared. What are you talking about? Five years of work, a
hundred miles of electrified fence couldn't prepare the other Island! And you
think, what? A couple dozen Marlboro Men were going to make a difference here?!
VanOwen: It's a looter mentality. All you care about is what you can take. You
have no right!
Ludlow: An extinct animal that's brought back to life has no rights! He exists
because we made it! We patented it! We own it!
Stark approaches VanOwen.
VanOwen: You looking for a problem?!
Stark: And I found you, didn't I?!
Stark and VanOwen grab for each other and start to fight. The others break them
up. Tembo is facing VanOwen.
Tembo: I know you! Your that Earth First bastard, aren't you?!
Ludlow: Earth First? What's that?
Tembo: Professional saboteurs.
VanOwen: We're not violent criminals!
Harding: Knock it off and listen to me!! By moving the baby T-Rex into our camp,
we may have changed the adults perceived territory.
Ludlow: Their what?
Burke: That's why they persisted in destroying the trailers. And they'll feel
they have to defend this entire area.
Harding: We have to move! Right now!
VanOwen: Move where? Our boat, their airlift are both waiting for an order we
have no way to send.
Ludlow: (pulling map out of pack) Allright! Allright! There's a communication
center here at, here in the old Operations Building. Hammond ran everything on
geothermal power. It was never meant to need replenishing. If we can get here,
we can send a radio call for the airlift.
Malcolm: Is the frequency written down some place?
Ludlow: Right here in this book.
Tembo takes the map and the book and hands them to Ajay.
Tembo: We'll mind those.
VanOwen: All right! How far's the Village?
Ludlow: A days walk, maybe more. Ah! Ah!
Ludlow walks a few feet and picks up his hip flask lying on the ground.
Ludlow: That's not the problem?
Tembo: What is? What is the problem?
Ludlow: Velociraptors. (Takes a swig from the flask) Our infrareds show that
their nesting sites are concentrated in the Island interior; which is why we
planned to keep to the outer Rim.
Stark: Wait, wait a minute. What's a Velociraptor?
Burke: Velociraptor. A carnivore. Pack hunter. About 2 meters tall, long snout,
binocular vision, strong dexterous forearms, and killing claws on both feet.
Harding: And the Rexes may continue to track us too! If they perceive a threat
to themselves or to their infant.
Burke: No, no. Your wrong there Dr. Harding. We'll lose them once we leave their
territory.
Harding: No, don't bet on it. Tyrannasaurs have the largest proportional
olfactory cavity of any creature in the fossil record with the exception of one.
Burke: Right, ah.. Turkey Vulture; could scent up to 10 miles.
Ludlow: Right. This is all very thrilling, but I say we should push on to the
Village.
Malcolm: We could, ah, head back down to the Lagoon.
Tembo: And do what?! Sit out in the open! Next to a heavily used water source
and hope that your Captain decides to come back for you?!
VanOwen: No, he won't do that; he knows better.
Tembo: Then we head for the Village! We might find some shelter and we can call
for help. Rex just fed, so he won't stalk us for food.
Tembo grabs his rifle and starts to head off; Malcolm quickly following.
Malcolm: Just fed! I assume your talking about Eddie?! You might show a little
respect! The man saved our lives by giving his!
Tembo: Then his problems are over. My point is; that predators don't hunt when
they're not hungry.
VanOwen: No, only humans do!
Tembo: Ahh! Your breaking our hearts! Saddle Up!! Let's get this moveable feast
underway!!
They move off.
It's raining again as they move through the trees in single file.
VanOwen: Excuse me; cowboy! (as he passes Stark to reach Tembo in the lead)
VanOwen: You want some gum? (offers some to Tembo, who declines) Seems that you
have a shred of common sense; what the hell are you doing here?
Tembo: Some where on this Island is the greatest predator that ever lived!
Second greatest predator must take him down!
VanOwen: You going to use that? (pointing to Tembo's rifle)
Tembo: If he doesn't surrender; yes!
VanOwen: Let me see it for a second.
Tembo: No!
VanOwen: The animal exists on the planet for the first time in tens of millions
of years, and the only way you can express yourself is to kill it?!
Tembo: Remember that chap, about 20 years ago? I forgot his name. Climbed
Everest without any oxygen. Came down nearly dead. When they asked him, "Why did
you go up there to die?" He said, "I didn't, I went up there to live"!
And they move on.. As Ludlow starts to pass Malcolm and Kelly.
Malcolm: Say, I haven't had a chance to wish you luck on your new business
venture! Your off to a promising start.
Ludlow: My team is intact, Doctor. I'm sorry for the loss of your man. You know,
it's very easy to criticize someone who generates an idea. Someone who assumes
all the risk and someone who puts everything...
Malcolm: Whenever you try to sound like Hammond, it just comes off like a
hustle. I mean, it's not your fault; they say talent skips a generation. So, ah,
hey! I'm sure your kids are going to be sharp as tacks!
Ludlow: Hammond's reach exceeded his grasp! Mine does not!
Malcolm: Taking dinosaurs off this Island is the worst idea in the long, sad
history of bad ideas! And I'm going to be there when you learn that!
Scene: A faraway shot of the group traveling along the edge of the forest. It's
early morning and
the sun is starting to light up the sky.
Next scene: Now a stationary shot of everyone moving past the camera. Shot
continues showing Burke, and Arjay and Roland. Roland and Ajay silently
react to a dull roar in the distance. Both him and Ajay raise their guns in
defense. Roland then ushers everyone to keep moving
Roland: Let's go.
Next scene: Next scene shows Ian with Kelly, who's face is covered by Ian's arm,
walking past the camera. Men are muttering in the background as the camera slowly pans
towards a fern leaf just as Sarah brushes past it. With birds twittering in
the background the camera now quickly pans up to Roland as he looks at the
leaf that Sarah brushed by. Slowly he walks past it as he examines it.
Cut to: A closeup of the leaf as it is being passed shows that it has been
covered by blood. Roland automatically assumes that it's Sarah's.
Cut to: Roland in the foreground with Arjay, Nick, and Sarah in the immediate
background.
Roland: Take a break. Five minutes
Sarah walks into the foreground passed Roland. He stares at her as she passes
and then, taking off his hat and with the camera following, goes over to her.
Sarah is now resting next to the trunk of a tree. Roland comes up to her, puts
his gun on the trunk of the tree, out of the cameras sight. and bends down in
front of her.
Roland: You injured ?
Sarah: Huh ?
Roland points to her bloodstained jacket.
Sarah: Oh, No. Um, It's from the baby. I set it's broken leg. It's ..not
drying in the humidity.
Ludlow breaks into the conversation now.
Ludlow: Roland. A word
Roland: Uh Huh..
The camera pans up and to the right as Roland gets up. Ludlow now comes into the
picture looking quite confused and holding the map.
Ludlow: I'd love to know where we are.
Roland and Ludlow now exit stage right as they converse as to where, on the map,
they are. As they leave Nick Van Owen comes in from the background heading
towards Sarah.
The camera now panning back to the left brings Nick next to Sarah. He sits
down next to her and begins talking.
Nick: Makin' friends with Ahab huh ?
Sarah cheerfully ignores him as she takes off her shoe. Nick leans onto his
knees and scratches his head while looking towards the camera and Roland's gun
which is now in view. With hunters coughing in the background and Sarah
emptying her shoe Nick just keeps staring intently at the gun.
Next scene: The camera is now following Dieter from the back as he walks through
the group. An anonymous hunter throws a water bottle to another hunter.
Hunter in background: There's a bottle. About all I got left.
The camera continues to pan passed the hunter who caught the bottle. Past
another hunter drinking from a canteen and continues to follow Dieter as
he heads up a little hill. Dieter walks past Carter who's back is turned
towards the camera.
Dieter: Hey, Carter I'm goin' to the ladies room. So you wait for me here. Yeah.
Okay ?
The camera closes in on Carter as he turns around, showing him listening to some
music in Spanish. Dieter, oblivious to the whole thing, can be seen in the
background heading into the woods. Carter, unaware of Dieter's instructions,
drinks from his water bottle.
Next scene: A semi-downhill shot of Dieter heading down the hill to pee. The
camera pans with him as he walks past a fallen tree and then runs up and over
another one. He starts to pull off his vest.
Cut to: Dieter is now taking off his vest and pulls something out of his pants.
All in an extreme rush to pee.
Dieter: Oh, man.
A strange sound in the woods puts Dieter on the defense. He immediately picks up
his gun and looks around for the source of the sound. His urge to pee momentarily
deadened. He turns to his left and heads in that direction looking for whatever
interrupted him.
Cut to: Dieter walks under a fallen tree and towards the camera all with the gun
in hand.
Cut to: A side shot of him surveying the area. With some plants obscuring our
view we can see Dieter slowly turn towards the camera. The intensity builds as
he gets closer.
Cut to: Suddenly the face of a dinosaur comes straight at the camera screeching
and looking menacing.
Cut to: A farther view shows us that it's just a little Compsognathus.
Cut to: Dieter now showing relief at the little guy. Even laughing at it.
Cut to: A side view of Dieter and the Compy. The little Compy is still
pretending to threaten Dieter as it raises and lowers it's head while
snapping it's jaws.
Dieter: It's not polite to sneak up on people.
Dieter takes out his electric prod, but the Compy quickly reacts by hopping back
into the foliage. Dieter makes random strikes with the prod trying to hit the little
dino. We can here the prod buzzing and the Compy squeaking as it runs away.
Dieter, now satisfied, heads back to the camp.
Cut to: In the background we see Dieter entering stage right. He's turning a
corner and coming down a dip then back up towards the camera. Dieter is now
almost on top of the camera as it starts to follow him to the left. We can see
Dieter's confusion as he looks forward, back and then forward again as he
tries to find his position. He stops and looks behind himself. Then slowly
continues forward.
Dieter shouting: Hey Carter ! (pause) Where are ya ?
Dieter turns around once, then walks right.
Dieter shouting: Hey, Carter ! I got turned around in here.
Dieter now walks up to a tree while the camera slowly follows.
Dieter (talking to himself): Oh, shit!
Next scene: The camera slowly zooms out from the jungle. Spanish music can be
heard in the background. As well as Dieter.
Dieter shouting in distance: Hey, Carter. Let me hear from you !
The camera continues to zoom out and now pans up and slightly to the right,
revealing Carter. He is still listening to the music on his walkman and
chewing some chocolate. Contemplating with himself, Carter takes another
bite out of the chocolate bar.
Next scene: We return to Dieter as he's walking panicky through the jungle.
Dieter shouting: Hey, Carter!
The camera follows Dieter from a half height perspective. So we can only see
Dieter's legs as he walks up a little hill and inbetween two trees. Dieter
heads down the hill from the two trees, revealing to the camera his whole
body. He continues forward looking to his sides on occasion. Birds can be
heard in the trees. He heads under a baby tree that is branched out all over.
The light of the sun catches Dieter's face and back as he walks over a tree
root. The camera continues to follow at a ground up, half height perspective.
Cut to: The camera switches views. Now instead of following Dieter from behind
it shows him coming toward the camera from the sunlit area. Dieter haphazardly
jumps over old roots and steps on twigs while the camera follows him left.
He comes to an area blocked by ferns. Dieter takes a giant step over the
ferns while trying to raise Carter again.
Dieter shouting: Hey Cart----
Dieter disappears through the ferns.
Cut to: Dieter falls down a steep hill heading right towards the camera. His gun
flies down the hill and out of the camera's sight.
Cut to: The camera moves backward as we see Dieter rolling, head over heals,
down the hill. He straightens out for a second as he continues to slide down
the hill.
Cut to: Another back-up shot of Dieter rolling and sliding all the way down the
hill. Dust gets kicked up as he rolls.
Cut to: A side shot of Dieter rolling over and over down the hill. The camera
continuing to follow him left Slight grunting can be heard.
Cut to: A stationary shot of Dieter rolling down the hill, getting closer and
closer until his rear end hits the camera.
Cut to: An on ground shot of Dieter's landing. His face slams into the dirt.
With the shock starting to wear off, Dieter raises his head and coughs,
causing dirt to go everywhere. He clenches his teeth and closes he eyes from
the pain of the fall. He coughs again and start panting. Suddenly Dieter
opens his eyes and scans the area. The music comes on and the suspense
increases. Rustling comes from the background. Dieter turns toward it, facing
away from the camera.
Cut to: Many footsteps can be heard as the camera rushes in, from an on the
ground perspective, through the foliage right up to Dieter's face just as he turns.
Cut to: Another on ground rush up to Dieter. This time from behind him. Again
the footsteps are heard. The camera almost comes up to his feet.
Cut to: A final on ground, rush shot of the camera closing in on Dieter. This
time from right in front of him. Dieter gasps as he looks right at the
advancing camera. In shock, Dieter backs up. Again the footsteps are heard.
Cut to: An overhead shot of Dieter lying on the ground as some two dozen
Comsognathus rush him. They jump on his back. Then as Dieter rolls over on his
back they jump on his chest. He rolls on his side as the camera slowly zooms in.
The Compys get him again and again. At one point Dieter rolls to his left,
throwing a Compy into a bush. The camera continues to zoom in, showing
Compys coming from every possible direction. Screeches and growls can be
heard the entire time as the Compsognathus eat him alive. The camera
still continues it's zoom. Soon Dieter is covered with little dinosaurs.
Rolling back and forth and back and forth.
Cut to: A stationary shot of the woods in the background. From the bottom of the
screen Dieter's screaming face shows up in the foreground with two visible Compys.
One on the back of his neck another on his left shoulder. As Dieter backs up, a
third Compy can be seen. For a second it contemplates where to bite him. Then it
attacks his face. Dieter, still screaming, arches his back and shakes himself,
trying with all his might to remove these animals. The camera slowly zooms
out showing Dieter's torso covered in biting Compsognathus. In shock and panick,
Dieter tries again to get Carter's attention.
Dieter shouting in extreme pain: Carter !
Dieter spreads open his arms and looks at the animals all over them.
Cut to: Another close-up, face shot of Dieter and Compys. He grabs one of them
by the neck. It squeals and yelps. Dieter looks at his right arm.
Cut to: A picture of his right arm. Two Compys are hanging on it, assessing
their best place to bite it. The camera now pans up and back to Dieter's face.
Dieter, looking everywhere, yells once more.
Dieter shouting: Carter !
He then snaps his head forward in pain as another Compy bites him.
Cut to: A first person view of the Compy on Dieter's chest. Dieter takes the
Compy and throws it off him.
Cut to: A close-up of Dieter's face. A Compsognathus has grabbed his bloody lip
and won't let go. Dieter, painfully, rips it off his face. The Compy screeches
as it is thrown off.
Cut to: A full shot of Dieter, standing, and trying to remove the 5 or 6 Compys
that are still on him. He arches back and then snaps forward screaming. The
remaining Compys fall off and they all go running behind the camera. Dieter just
stands there, shocked to see them off him.
Cut to: An over the shoulder view of Dieter looking at the hoard of little dinos
that moments earlier were all over him. The Compys stand on a log by a stream
hooting and jumping.
Cut to: Another full shot of a confused Dieter. Happy to have the little devils
off him, but unsure why they let him go, he slowly turns around and heads down
stream. As he steps in a puddle the Compys can be seen running past the camera
towards Dieter again. Dieter turns around and the Compys stop. As before they
just stand there hooting and warbling at Dieter. Spooked by this, Dieter charges
the animals.
Cut to: A stationary shot of the logs that the Compys were previously on. The
little dinos go running right passed it, followed by Dieter who is shouting at
them. When he stops they stop. So to add more distance Dieter looks around
in the stream for some rocks. He picks up a handful and throws it at the
Compys causing them all to scatter.
Cut to: An angled up shot of Dieter. He looks at his hands and then, muttering
to himself, walks away. Continuing to mutter to himself he checks his hand.
Seeing something he doesn't like Dieter seemingly sucks it. Groaning he heads
back downstream. Now finally given up on Carter Dieter, surveying the area,
tries someone else.
Dieter shouting: Hey, Roland !
Next scene: Back at the camp we see Sarah (sleeping) and Nick still leaning up
against the tree. Roland's gun can be seen in the foreground. Nick watches as a
mysterious arm comes comes into the foreground and picks up the gun. The camera
follows the gun to the right. We find that the arm belongs to Roland. He puts his
hat on with his free hand and turns right. Facing the hunters.
Roland announcing: Okay. Break over. Moving on.
Roland turns around and, flinging the butt of his rifle over his right shoulder,
heads out stage right. Arjay is the first to stand up and, after a shakey start,
follows after Roland. Sarah and Nick pass in front of Arjay and the camera.
Hunters are murmuring and chattering as they all get ready to leave. Ian and
Kelly follow after Arjay. They stop in front of the camera. Kelly looks at her
dad.
Kelly to Ian: Carry me.
Hunter in background: I got it.. I got it.
Burke can be seen in the background and to the left with his back to the camera.
After Ian and Kelly exit the picture, Ludlow can be seen again holding the map
and looking lost.
Cut to: Carter is still sitting on the little hill listening to his music and
eating his food. An unknown hunter come into the background.
Hunter: Carter ? Carter.
Having no luck calling Carter, the hunter picks up a pebble and tosses it at
him. This time he gets Carter's attention. Carter turns toward him. The hunter
ushers, with his right arm, that it's time to go. Carter takes off his headphones
and bends down to pick up his pack. Then he gets up to go. The camera slowly
pans away from where Carter was sitting and focuses on Dieter's pack that
was left on the ground just a few feet away.
Next scene: A treetop view. Through the leaves, the stream with Dieter in it can
be seen.
Dieter shouting: Hey, Carter! Roland !
Cut to: Dieter is running from the camera and looking back. The sound of the
Compys can be heard in the background. Dieter is stumbling now and slightly
woozy. He almost trips on a fallen branch, but regains his balance. He picks
up another rock from the stream
Dieter panic stricken, shouting: Roland !
He throws the rock at the camera, missing and hitting the water.
Dieter: Get off !
Dieter kicks water at the camera trying to frighten the animals away. With that
not working Dieter starts to run away, dragging his feet as he goes.
Cut to: A side shot with the camera slowly panning down the stream. Dieter comes
into view and falls, face first, into the water.
Cut to: A close up of Dieter. Blood is on his face and he's panting from
fatigue. Struggling, Dieter tries to keep his face out of the water as he
gulps air. The Compsognathus can be seen in the background jumping into the
stream. Dieter continues to try and breathe. Suddenly a Compy jumps onto
Dieter's back and warbles at him. He looks at it and it looks at him. Then
it strikes his face. Soon more join in and Dieter is forced to try and remove
them again.
Cut to: A rotating view of Dieter's back, covered in Compys. The camera slowly
rotates to his head. Dieter screams. Then the camera rotates back to his waist.
All of him covered in Compys.
Cut to: Two Compys biting his leg and tugging at it.
Cut to: A full shot of Dieter as he kicks the Compys off and gets to his feet.
Stumbling Dieter runs through the stream towards a fallen tree. The camera
and the Compys slowly follow. Dieter stops and looks behind himself.
Cut to: A waist up shot of Dieter looking at the Compys that are no longer seen.
The camera follows Dieter as he struggles to climb the tree and get to safety.
He gets halfway up and looks back. He then continues with all his might to get
over the tree. Just as Dieter gets over the tree the camera slowly pans down and
we see the Compys easily hopping onto and over the tree.
Dieter: No No No [Screaming]
The Compys continue to jump over the tree and we can hear Dieter's screams as
the camera pans farther down towards the water. A high pitched scream is emitted
and then it stops. All that can be heard is the Compys snarling. The camera
comes to a hole inbetween the tree and the water. It slowly pans back as the
water near the tree starts to turn red. The red water continues down the
stream and past the camera.
Cut to: Close up of Roland.
Roland: When did you last see him?
Carter: Ten..fifteen minutes.
The group is sitting on the ground. Roland motions to a few people.
Roland: Come with me..and you. If he's alive we'll find him. The rest of you,
keep right on. In ten minutes you should reach the ridge. Wait for us there.
(quietly to Sarah) Miss Harding.. no one tells the little girl.
The small group exits. Ludlow stands up.
Ludlow: Right. Let's carry on.. (the group doesn't move) Everybody, up!
Come on. (the group still doesn't move). Up, up, up! (he claps his hands)
Nick stands up.
Nick: All right guys. Let's get the hell outta here.
The group stands up and starts to move out.
Cut to: Night time in the camp. Roland and the small search party return.
Ajay runs to meet Roland.
Ajay: Roland? Did you find him?
Roland: (beat, then) Just the parts they didn't like... Map... (Ajay takes out
a map and gives it to Roland, shining a flashlight on it.)
Roland: The operations building is right down in there. About a mile and a
half from the base of these cliffs.
Ajay: How do you know that?
Roland: I've seen it. Now, the climb down won't be easy. We'll let them sleep
one more hour. And then we'll hit it.
Cut to: The camp. Night.
Sarah and Kelly are sleeping in a tent. The lantern is on, and we see some
opened candy bars on the ground.
Nick walks around cautiously outside. People are sleeping on either side of
him. Suddenly, tremors can be heard in the distance. In a puddle of water, the
familiar impact rings can be seen. Ian spins around and continues to walk
backwards.
Close up of Sarah's face. She opens her eyes and listens to the stomping
sounds.
Sarah: (whispering) Oh no...
She looks up and sees her jacket hanging on a line inside the tent. She soon
realizes that it's the same jacket which had the baby T-rex's blood on it.
Frantically, she tries to hide the smell of the candy bars by putting them in a
plastic bag. Before she's done, however, a siluet of the T-rex can be seen
through the tent. The monster's head bows down, and lets out a soft roar.
Ian looks on from outside in terror.
Inside the tent, Sarah quickly turns off the light. A few seconds later, the
Rex slowly pokes his head inside the tent, sniffing the jacket with blood on it,
then looks down and sniffs at the two humans. Sarah whimpers. Kelly, awakened
by the sound, starts to let out a scream, but Sarah puts her hand over her
mouth. The Rex continues to sniff the jacket.
Ian (outside, softly): Kelly... Kelly..
Diego is wakened by the sound of the rex. Suddenly, he wakes up, and starts
screaming, bellowing something in Spanish. The other Hunters get up immediately
and the camp is instantly in chaos. People run everywhere, trying to get away
from the dinosaur.
Malcolm: Stay down.. Stay down!! Don't move... Don't move... Don't run!!!
The hunters do not take Ian's advice, and frantically run from the dinosaur.
The Rex, still inside the tent, is startled by the noise, and lifts his head up,
taking the top off of the tent. He swings his head, trying to get the tent off.
Ian hides under a large branch as people jump over him. Nick Van Owen runs with
Sarah and Kelly, hurrying them along.
Nick: Go, go, go, go.. Go through here.. Don't look.. Just run!!!!
Cut to: Roland Tembo appears, carrying his rifle and running in the opposite
direction of everyone else. He aims at the T-rex and pulls the trigger but
nothing happens. He opens the gun and pulls out nothing but the spent shells.
Roland: (to himself) Bastard..
The hunters run. Another T-rex appears and runs after them. There is total
chaos, as everyone scrambles to get away. Diego get trampled and falls into a
puddle. When he gets up, he is just in time to see the huge animal's leg crash
down on him. Stuck to the bottom of it's foot, he is carried up and down a few
times, being flattened with each blow.
Cut to: Roland opens a box labeled "Warning: Vetinary Tranquilizers".
Methodically, he takes a tranq and loads it into his rifle. Holding another in
his teeth, he slowly walks towards the first t-rex, which is now scavenging the
abandoned camp. Roland shoots the first dart into the Rex, which simply causes
him to turn and bellow at the human. Quickly, Roland loads the second dart into
the rifle.
Cut to: Nick, Sarah, and Kelly. As the chasing dinosaur gets closer, Sarah and
a few others spot a waterfall. They quickly run into it, followed by the huge
Rex head. It can't reach them, however, as they all press against the back
wall. A huge T-rex tongue moves over Sarah's face. Robert Bakkar, who also ran
into the waterfall is startled by a snake crawling into his shirt. He gasps and
moves forward, a costly mistake as the Rex grabs him, pulls him out of the
waterfall, and bites down, sending a stream of red water flowing over the top of
the falls. All is quiet for a few seconds until..
Nick: It's coming back!!
Ian bursts into the waterfall. He grabs Kelly.
Kelly: Dad!!!
Ian: (looking at Nick) Thank you..
Cut to: Night. A large group of hunters mistaking run in terror into a large
field of long grass. Dozens of voices yell as they cut a path through the
field.
Men: Move!!! Go, Go, Go!!!
Ajay stops at the entrance to the field and realizes the men's mistake.
Ajay: (yelling) Don't go into the long grass!!!!
More hunters run blindingly past him. Seeing no other option, Ajay runs into
the field himself, first stopping to throw his pack down on the ground.
Ajay: (yelling) Not into the long grass!!!
The hunters run through the field in a line, but another group of hunters has
other plans. As the men run by in the background, the heads of several Raptors
poke out of the top of the grass.
As the men shouting continues, we see an overhead shot of the raptors closing in
on the group, cutting their own paths through the grass.
The humans get picked off one by one, starting from the back. It takes a few
seconds for the men in the front to realize what is happening, but when they do,
they scatter in every direction and start screaming. One raptor leaps into the
air, landing on a frightened hunter, tearing him to shreds.
Cut to: Nick, Eddie, Ian, and Kelly reach the front of the long grass field.
The scene is much quieter than before. Nick spots something and stops.
Nick: Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey! (picking up Ajays pack) Look at this.. (the others
run over) I think it's Ajay's bag.
A raptor screeching in the distance causes the group to look up. Ian cautiously
steps forward. More raptors can be heard, these seemingly closer.
Malcolm: Go.. as fast as you can. Go.. Go, go! GO!!!!!
They sprint through the field, Ian pulling Kelly behind him. Obviously not
looking where they are going, they blindingly fall of the edge of a incline, and
stumble down a steep path.
The group gets up and hurries towards what looks like dinosaur bones. Ian falls
down, clutching his bad leg.
Malcolm: Ow.. Ow!
He sits down, and the others gather around him.
Nick: (getting something out of his pack) see structures there... they say the
communications center is in the operations building.. So I'll get in there, and
I'll send the radio call, all right? See you there.
Malcolm: Wait for us...
Nick: Every second counts.. Anyone who can keep up is welcome to try.
Malcolm: Okay, here we come.
Sarah: (pushing him down) No! Ian, Rest.
Sarah: No Ian.. Rest..
Cut To: A large radio camp on the island. Various debris, including parts of
vehicles, buildings, etc, lie scattered on the ground. Branches of trees and
other undergrowth decorate the walkway. A light bluish mist clouds the air, as
Nick runs into the camp from the main entrance, pointing his flashlight forward.
He leaps up the steps to the main building, and carefully opens the moldy doors.
Walking slowly into the building, he shins his light around. It seems to be
some sort of office, with old seats along the wall. At the other end, a bright
mural decorates the wall, now covered by plant growth. Nick jumps back slightly
as he turns and faces a large drawing of a T-rex. He steps back and looks at
the painting, realizing the senselessness of what InGen tried to accomplish.
Nick: (to himself, silently) Oh man... (chuckles)
He hears a soft roar off in the distance. Startled, he remembers what he has to
do, and turns towards the other end of the building. He forces opens another
set of doors.
Cut To: Another room, this one covered with more plant growth than the other.
Broken glass and tables with un-finished scientific experiments are in a row in
the middle.
Nick spots what seems to be a power box, but the sign is all moldy and hard to
read. He brushes off some of the moss and flips the switch below the sign.
The room buzzes to life. A light blub flashes and explodes, but most of the
radio equipment seems to be working. Nick quickly scurries to move the plant
growth and find the transmitter. He turns the dial, tuning to the right
frequency.
Nick: (to himself) Be there.. C'mon..be there.. be there.
He picks up the microphone and speaks slowly into it.
Nick: C.Q., C.Q., This is harvest leader to harvest base.. Repeating.. I'm
calling for InGen operations harvest leader... seeking InGen harvest base.
Man: (over radio) Go ahead harvest leader.
Nick: (speaking faster) Yeah... The operation has suffered severe casualties
and the survivors are in mortal danger. I need you to send rescue immediately.
Our coordinates here are.. um.. Our coordinates here are 9 degrees, 58 minutes
north, 85 degrees...
Cut to: What is left of the camp. Ajay walks cautiously towards the camera,
looking amazed. Giant T-rex footstep tremors can be heard in the distance. We
see Roland crouched in the underbrush, the rifle at his side. While it is not
clear, Ajay is looking at wonder at the tranquilized T-rex.
Cut to: Nick, Kelly, Ian, and Sarah walk through what appears to be a
decomposed rib-cage of a large dinosaur. The structure changes as they walk
along, turning into a large piping system. They arrive at the entrance to the
radio camp. The door, marking the border of the camp with the electric fence,
is open. The group cautiously walks in.
Inside the camp, debris is scattered all around. There are old, abandoned cars,
debris from past storms that have swept the island, and overturned lights.
Ian: (calling) Nick.. Nick! Nick? Nick Van Own!
Suddenly, a Raptor appears from nowhere, jumps onto a car behind Sarah, and
pounces on her. She falls to the ground, the Raptor pulling at her lucky pack.
Standing up, the pack is quickly ripped off her back. She runs to Ian and Kelly
as they run for cover. The raptor soon notices them, and looks up, growling.
Ian picks up a stick and starts banging it, trying to draw the Raptor away from
Sarah and Kelly.
Ian: Here, here, here, here, here, here! (gesturing to Kelly and Sarah) Inside!
Anywhere!
Two more raptors appear. Kelly and Sarah break for an entrance to what appears
to be a shed. The raptors lunge at them, but Sarah manages to get the door
closed in the nick of time. The raptors bang against the strong metal door.
Back with Ian, he loses sight of his pursuer for a few seconds. Looking around,
the raptor suddenly flies into the air, landing on the car next to him. Ian
turns and runs, opening a door to what appears to be a office of a gas station.
The raptor flings it's body through the glass window, landing inside. Ian
quickly opens the door, and runs outside, but is stopped in his tracks by the
raptor, who easily hops the window again. Turning quickly, he grabs the door to
the office, breaking it off it's hinges. He holds it in front of him, as the
Raptor slams into it, sending Ian tumbling out of a window. He scrambles to his
feet, running around and past the office, and opens a door to a truck. The
raptor slams against the door as Ian closes it, sending Ian into the cab.
Attacking the window ferociously, the dinosaur manages to slowly break a hole in
the window.
Inside the shed, Sarah and Kelly shudder as the Raptors bang against the door,
shaking the walls. Soon they begin to dig at the soft dirt under the door. The
two humans back up slowly, but hit the wall at the other end of the shed.
Inside the cab, the Raptor is farther into the car. Ian looks a bit worried.
We see the two raptors at the shed digging quickly.
Back in the shed, Sarah and Kelly begin to dig their own hole on the other side.
The two race to complete their hole, the humans using rocks while the raptors
use their claws. Soon the humans hole is big enough, and Sarah sticks her head
down and looks around on the other side.
Sarah: (to Kelly) Go.. Go!!
Kelly begins to go through the hole, but suddenly.. a Raptor head slams down
into the dirt from the other side, narrowly missing Kelly's head. Sarah pulls
her up, and they turn and start climbing to the top of the shed.
In the truck, the Raptor breaks through. Seeing that the digging dinosaurs have
left, Ian opens his door and runs straight for the shed. As he opens it, Ian
does not notice the Raptors emerging from the hole on the other side.
Sarah and Kelly: Ian!! Look out! Up here! Up here!
Ian scrambles to climb up the side, as the Raptor jumps up, narrowly missing
Ian's leg. Kelly looks pissed. Grabbing hold of a set of conveniently placed
un-even bars, she swings and does her gymnastic thing, managing to kick one of
the raptors out of the shed. It falls, landing on a piece of debris. Her
"routine" complete, she swings down, landing on the ground.
Cut to: Ian climbs down from the rafters.
Ian: They cut you from the team?
Sarah screamsfrom above.
Sarah: Get out! Get outta here! Now!
Ian and Kelly turn around, and head out the back door of the shed. The camera
pans up to Sarah, who climbs up towards the top.
Cut to: Shot of the top of the shed. Sarah kicks out some boards, and climbs
out onto the
roof of the shed. She runs down it and jumps, landing on the roof of an
adjacent building. She starts to climb up it. Suddenly, the camera pans up and
a raptor emerges from the same hole Sarah came out of. The raptor spots Sarah
and takes a mighty leap, landing in front of her on the adjacent roof. Sarah
looks up at the animal and screams, sliding down. She falls off the edge but
hangs on, spotting another raptor eyeing her from below. It jumps up and tries
to nip her, but missed. Sarah responds by throwing a loose roof tile down
towards the raptor, but it steps out the way.
She continues throwing the tiles down, causing the entire row of tiles to start
to fall off. Sarah notices this and starts rapidly throwing the tiles to the
ground. The raptor on top loses it's balance, and slides off the roof along
with the tiles, landing next to the animal on the ground. The other raptor is
noticeably upset, and starts nipping at the other dinosaur.
Suddenly, Sarah loses her grip on the roof, and falls to the ground. The
raptors are too busy fighting to notice, however, as they snarl and nip at each
other. Sarah crawls over to the shed wall, narrowly missing the raptor's
tumbling bodies as they violently fight. She spots an entrance to the shed on
the ground, and rolls into it.
Landing on a overhead light fixture, it breaks, and she slides down it, crashing
through a window. Conveniently, Ian and Sarah are there to help her up, and
they run together towards the waiting helicopter. Nick yells at them from the
building.
Nick: C'mon, let's go!! Let's go!
In one camera shot, they run up the stairs, into the building, out the back
door, and climb the stairs to the helicopter pad. The co-pilot is waiting for
them.
Co-Pilot: (yelling over the noise of the helicopter) Let's go, let's go!
Ian: What about the others? There must be more survivors!
Co-Pilot: There's another copter coming for them!
The helicopter takes off, and the camera follows it, passing over the sign
"InGen: We Make Your Future".
Cut to: Inside the helicopter. Kelly looks noticeably upset. Sarah and Nick
stare out the window.
Ian: (patting Kelly's head) It's okay, it's okay.. it's over.
Nick looks down at his hand, holding several bullets taken from Roland's gun.
He looks up, and lets them drop to the floor of the helicopter.
Nick: Well, that's one souvenir they won't be taking with them.
Cut To: Hunter's camp. Various members of the team ready a huge T-rex to be
transfered, which is heavily sedated. Ludlow is talking on his phone.
Ludlow: Find the infant tyrannosaur. Roland can show you where the nest is. I
want it on my Jet. I'll take it directly to the infirmary complex in San Diego.
And hurry it up. I'd love to be airborne before the female knows we're here.
He sees Roland sitting next to the sedated Rex and runs over to him.
Ludlow: Oh Roland! Roland, Roland! You've probably saved InGen. We lost
everything we came after on this trip. But this animal and it's infant are
gonna single-handedly bail us out. Congratulations! You've got your trophy!
Buck only! But it's alive! And everyone on this planet is going to line up to
appreciate it and everything you've done.
Roland stands up and starts to walk away.
Ludlow: What's the matter?
Roland: He didn't make it... Ajay.
Ludlow: Oh.. I'm sorry. Really, I am....... You know.. I remember the people
who've helped me, Roland. There's a job for you at the park in San Diego if you
want it..
Roland: (Turning around) No thank you.... I believe I've spent enough time in
the company of death.
He puts on his hat, turns, and walks towards a waiting helicopter.
Cut To: Inside the helicopter with Nick, Ian, Kelly, and Sarah.
Sarah: (looking outside the window) Oh my God.
Nick opens the door of the helicopter, and they all look out. They see the
sedated T-rex and the team readying to transfer it.
Cut To: Roland next to the Rex, staring up at the helicopter flying by.
The helicopter flies into San Diego. Cars drive into the InGen waterfront
People get out to be greeted by the InGen Security.
Lundow: Fifteen years ago, John Hammond had a dream like John himself, It was
Grand, It was outsized. It was bold, It was impractacle, It was....not to be..
Well, half an hour from now, John Hammond dream, reimagined, will come true
for one-one hundreth the cost of building a destination resort thousands of
miles away.
Ian Malcom drives up to the gate.
Ian: Hiya. Is this the Lundow Affair?
Guard1: I'm sorry, this is private property.
Ian: No we're on the list.
Guard1: You'll have to turn around and get back into your car.
Ian: This is Dr. Harding and I'm Dr. Malcom.
Guard1: That's nice.. (Shutting Gate)
Camera goes back to Lundow talking in front of the press.
Lundow: Tonight, we'll christen "Jurassic Park: San Diego".. With a
mega-attraction that will drive turnstile numbers to rival any theme park
in the world......... I want to thank all of you for being intepid
enough to turn up in the wee-small hours of the morning.
Habor Master: The ship, It`s here...
Lundow: Its early?
Habor Master: It`s...You`d better come along.
Lundow: It`s so exciting. (Whisper into Guard2`s ear) See that
lost-looking couple?
Harbor Master: Sir, you need to look at this.
Lundow: (Whispering in Guard2`s ear) Let them see this up close.
Guard2: Yes, Sir, Mr Ludlow.
Harbor Master: Let me check.
Man: I want a direct line to the coast guard right now!
Harbor Master: Look, That`s their transponder signal. Venture 5888
(Pointing) They're headed into port, but I can`t raise them
Lundow: Try Again
Harbor Master: Skipper, S.S. Venture, this is InGen Harbor Master,
Do you copy? Over. Skipper S.S. Venture, you are approching the
break water at flank speed, reduce at once.
Camera moves Ian and Sarah walking towards the dock.
They hear a distant rumbling. Everyone turns and looks.
Man: S.S. Venture reduce your speed at once.
Harbor Master: Skipper S.S. Venture, this is InGen Habor master.
Reduce your speed at once. You are approching at flank speed.
Lundow Stares at the screen. Camera goes to Ian and Sarah Wondering around
the waterfront.
Sarah: What`s everybody staring at?
Ian: We should have stayed in the damn car.
The rumbling gets louder. Everyone in the building stands up, as Ludlow walks
slowly outside. Then the boat comes into view just before in crashes in the harbor.
Every one starts running. Ludlow gets up and walks toward the boat.
Man: You OK.. Mr. Lundow?
Lundow: I don`t know, How do I look?
Ian climbs up the boat ramp, followed by Ludlow. Man walks into the cabin and
gasps at the sight of the dead crew.
Man: Oh My God...
Ludlow walks in.
Lundow: Where`s the crew?
Man: All Over the place.
Lundow takes some short gasps, then walks outside to the sound of the cargo hold
motor whirring. Camera pans past the T-rex restraints, now broken itnto pieces.
Ian walks up to the dead cargo hold person then looks at Sarah. The cargo hold
doors whine incessently as they try to open, but the motors give out.
Ian looks down, and sees an arm clutching the controls to the cargo
door. The button is being held down.
Cut to: Ludlow standing on the bridge of the ship.
Ludlow: (yelling) Check the cargo hold! There may be crew down there!
Ian: (realizing what's in the cargo hold) Everybody off the boat!
He runs up to Sarah, grabs her, and runs towards the opposite end of
the ship.
Cut to: A police officer yanks the cargo controls out of the dead
man's arm. He holds it up, about to push the open button. Ian
lundges at him, trying to get the police officer to stop. But it's
too late. The T-rex emerges from the hold, and rams it's head
into the top of the cargo doors. They burst open, the T-rex roars, and walks
out.
Roland looks on in terror.
The T-rex walks down the gang-plank, chasing the various workers into the water.
The Rex snaps at them, barely missing.
Ian: (quietly to Ludlow) Now you're John Hammond.
Cut to: More people running. The T-rex bursts through a sign which reads
"Welcome to the United States of America. No Fruits, Vegetables or Animals
beyond this point". The camera pans past the office with dozens of people on
the phone, etc. but no one notices a large dinosaur walking around the back.
The T-rex reaches the end of the dock, and stands on a large rock. The bright
skyline of San Diego can be seen on the other side of the bay. The T-rex roars
ferociously.
Cut to: Sarah and Ian running along the dock, talking to a worker. They pass
by the broken T-rex restraints.
Sarah: Why the hell wasn't it tranquilized?
Worker: It was. Roland hit it with two darts of concentrated Carfentanil. Over
10 miligrams.
Sarah: Ten miligrams should have put it into a coma!
Worker: Uh.. It stopped breating. So we gave it Naltrexone to counteract the
effects, but we didn't know how much...
Sarah: (inturrupting) You administerered an antagonist without knowing the
proper dosage?! You put the anamial in a nacroleptic state -- the thing's a
locomotive now!
Worker: Look. We're prepared for this.
Ian: (inturrupting) Are there any more dinosaurs.. still on the boat?
Worker: No, we brought the infant back on the plane. Look. (pulling out the
tranquilizer pistol) We had this to tranquilize it...
Sarah walks away, noticing Ludlow sitting on a higher level of the dock. Ludlow
is staring into space..
Sarah: Hey! Do you have the infant!?
Ludlow: (softly) It's safe..
Sarah: (pulling Ian aside) Ian, the animal is dehyrated. The first it's gonna
do is go to a water source. Then it's gonna look for the next thing it's body
needs... All the containment equipment is here. We gotta get it back to the
dock. The boat might still be seaworthy.
Ian: (softly) Am I..uh.. thinking what you're about to say?
Sarah: When we brought the baby to the trailer, it came. No reason to think it
won't do the same.
Ian: (Nods his head, then looks up) Yep..
Cut To: Sarah, talking to Ludlow.
Sarah: Where's the infant...
Ludlow: (dreamily) It's in a secure facility..
Ian: (coming into the frame) Where's the facility?
Cut To: The T-rex walks down the sidewalk of a street in the suburbs of San
Diego. He knocks over a small tree, growling silently. Walking by a house, a
small pool in a backyard draws it's attention. It walks towards it, demolishing
a brick wall in the process.
Cut To: Benjamin's Room. The camera stares into a brightly lit fishtank. The
impact tremors of the t-rex cause the water to vibrate, and Ben wakes up. He
slowly gets out of his bed and stares out of the window. The T-rex walks by,
growling into the room.
Benjamin slowly gets off his bed and walks quickly but calmly out of the room.
He makes his way around the corner and into his parents room.
Cut To: The family dog, a ferociously looking creature starts barking at the
T-rex. He advances towards the pool, from which the Rex is now drinking,
dragging his dog house behind him. The t-rex looks up and roars at the dog,
sending him back into his dog house in fear.
Cut To: Ben in his sleeping parent's room.
Ben: (quietly) There's a dinosaur in our backyard.
Hearing no answer, he jumps on their bed, and throws the covers off.
Ben's Dad: (groggily) Benjimin.. what are you doing? What? What?!
Ben: There's a dinosaur in our backyard!
Cut to: Ben pushing his parents towards his room.
Ben's Mom: I'm going to tell you what it is..
Ben's Dad: No.. No.. No.. Dear.. I will tell you exactly what it is.. You have
to serve him dinner...
Ben's Mom: I served him dinner! It's the stupid fish tank (walking over to
the fish tank) He needs a proper night light! It might as well be daytime!
Ben's Dad: It's not the fish tank... Then put something over it! (his mom
unplugs the fishtank light).. It's isn't.. Benjimin, please stop pushing... just
turn it off an--
Ben's Dad notices that, indeed, there is a dinosaur in their backyard. His
mouth hangs open in surprise. His mom looks at dad and realizes something's up.
She looks out the window..
Cut To: Ben's Mom and Dad looking out the window at the Rex. The dog house
dangles by it's chain from the T-rex's mouth. Suddenly, the chain breaks and
the dog house falls, breaking into pieces as it hits the ground. The family dog
is conspicuously absent.
Cut To: Ben snaps off a photograph of the rex from behind his parents. The
dinosaur, startled by the flash, turns towards the window and lets out a
terrifying roar. Ben's parents scream in terror.
Cut to: Entrance to the InGen facility in San Diego. Ian and Sarah crash
through the closed gate to the facility in their convertible. They drive
through the huge, semi-completed "arena", screeching to a halt in a back room.
They see the baby T-rex in a cage, and get out of the car.
Sarah: There it is.
She runs over to the cage and lifts the door, inspecting the baby. A muzzle is
around it's snout, and the eyes are glazed over.
Sarah: They sedated it... really heavily... Give me a hand.
Ian helps her lift the baby out of the cage and into the back seat of the car.
Ian: Hey, when the adult sees us once again with his baby, uh, isn't he gonna
be like "YOU"? You know.. there may be some, uh, angry recognition.
Sarah: Who knows? He may be just happy you see us.
A guard approaches the car and points a gun in Ian's face. Ian turns around.
Ian: We're takin' the kid.... If you really want to stop us, shoot us.
Ian throws the car into reverse and accelerates out of the room.
Sarah: How will we find the adult?
Ian: Follow the screams..
Cut to: Woman screaming. She backs up her car, slamming into some other
stopped vehicles in an intersection. People are running in terror all around
her.
A T-rex nonchalantly walks down the street. A car, moving in reverse, hits a
group of cars and goes flying, landing upside down. The t-rex takes a bit off
of the street light, twisting the metal.
A large bus frantically tries to get away from the dinosaur. The driver
instructs the passengers, but it doesn't do much good.
Driver: Go on! Faster! Get to the other side of the bus!!!
The T-rex, following slowly behind, gets annoyed at the large object, and swings
it's full body into the bus. Creating a huge dent, passengers fly of the bus
via the opposite window.
Inside of a video store. A few people are looking around. Suddenly, the
damaged bus comes flying through the window.
More people run from the huge beast. A few Japanese tourists look especially
miffed, say something in Japanese ("I left Tokyo to get away from this"), and
run even faster.
Behind them, an individual who looks surprisingly like JP/TLW screenwriter David
Koepp also runs from the T-rex. Stupidly, he breaks away from the group and
runs to a door on the side of the street. However, the Rex spots him, and
lunges for the screenwriter. The jaws close firmly over his body, and he
screams as the dinosaur lifts him into the air and bits down a final time.
Cut to: Ian and Sarah arrive on the scene. They watch as a speeding vehicle
flys past them, slams on the break and spins around, accelerating in the other
direction. The T-rex follows closely behind. Ian drives the convertible into a
gas station and stops. Sarah looks down at the baby rex.
Sarah: He's too drugged.
Ian: He's never gonna know we have it if the thing won't make some kind of
sound....
Sarah: (gently shaking the baby) Come on... Wake up!! Come on -- Come on..
The baby makes a low wail. Instantly, the adult turns towards the convertible
and roars.
Ian jumps back in surprise as a huge "76" ball rolls past the car. The Rex
ducks under the gas station awning and goes after the car. Ian backs up in a
hurry, as the Rex lunges as them, flipping over a van.
Sarah: Ian.. Ian, slow down a little..
Ian: (looking behind him) uh.. I don't think so.
Several police cars (and one "animal control" truck) try to intercept the rex.
However, when the dinosaur stops and roars at the cops, they all instantly throw
their transmissions into reverse and back up.
Ian and Sarah drive past a large warehouse. The baby is wailing in the back
seat.
Sarah: This guy's almost fully awake.. Do you know where you're going?
Ian: Yeah.. the waterfront's right on the other side of these warehouses..
Sarah: Is there anyway through?
Ian: Oh God... there could be....
Cut to: Malcolm is driving the red GTO with Harding and the baby T-Rex in the back
seat; headed for the Cargo ship. They crash through a warehouse wall near the Pier.
Malcolm stops the car, gets out and runs around to the passengers side to pick up
the Baby. Sarah gets out and they start running for the ship.
Malcolm - There we go! You have to follow me now! Here we go.
Harding - Got him?
Malcolm - Here we go. Ready?
Harding - Where’s the Rex?! Is he still behind us?!
The adult male Rex crashes through the warehouse wall with a ROAR and chases after
Malcolm and Harding. They run through another warehouse building with the Baby
hollering for its parents.
Malcolm - There’s the water!
Scene switches to Ludlow seated in his vehicle on the Pier speaking on the phone.
Ludlow - Shoot it! Shoot it! Tell them to shoot it!
Malcolm and Harding run down the pier, passing Ludlow in the parked vehicle.
Ludlow - No! No! You idiot! Shoot the adult! Shoot the adult! I want the baby back
alive!
Ludlow exits the car and is following Malcolm and Harding over the wreckage and
onto the ship. The baby T-Rex hollers. Ludlow stops just onto the ship and is
looking around.
Ludlow - Dr. Malcolm!
He sees Malcolm and Harding running up out of the cargo hold without the Baby.
Ludlow - What have you done with it?! I want that infant!
Malcolm and Harding jump off the port side of the ship into the harbor.
Ludlow is standing on the main deck of the ship as a helicopter shining a
searchlight approaches the ship. He hears the Baby cry out from the cargo hold.
Ludlow steps down a few stairs into the hold.
Ludlow - (quietly) Are you there?
He reaches the deck of the hold, scattered with crates, steel drums, and debris.
He spots the muzzle that Harding and Malcolm removed from the Baby , stoops and
picks it up. When he does he sees the Baby and grins.
Ludlow - Ah, there you are.
The Baby starts to run from him, as up above on the Main deck you see the adult
Rex coming into the cargo hold. The Baby runs past Ludlow towards his father. As
Ludlow turns to follow he stands straight and stops with an abrupt halt when he
sees that the adult Rex has joined him in the cargo hold.
The Rex approaches Ludlow with a loud ROAR and backs up Ludlow. Ludlow starts working
his way to the stairs that lead up out of the hold. He is quite terrified!
Ludlow - Wait! Wait! Wait!
As Ludlow gets half way up the stairs the Rex grabs him by the legs and flips him
to the deck of the hold. Ludlow is screaming! Ludlow rises up to stand but falls to
the deck on his belly and starts crawling away; all the while mumbling incoherent
pleadings.
The Rex nudges the Baby towards Ludlow and encourages him to make his first kill.
Ludlow turns his head just as the Baby pounces. Ludlow lets out one last scream!
The helicopter is hovering above the ship as numerous police vehicles are
approaching the ship.
Harding is back up on the ship with the Tranquilizer rifle that had been left in
the wreckage. Malcolm is at the controls of the cargo hold doors and hits the
switch to start the doors closing. They start to close as the Rex rises up his
head and ROARS!
Harding races to load a tranquilizer dart into the rifle and gets her shot off
at the Rex just seconds before the gunman in the helicopter can fire on the Rex
to kill him.
With one last roar the Rex sinks down into the hold as the doors close completely.
Cut To: Camera pointing towards a small television. It's tuned to CNN and it
shows a helicopter view of the cargo ship, on it's voyage back to the island.
Bernard Shaw: (from TV) There's a really first rate shot of the deck of that
ship.. and the cargo hold that, for the moment anyway, contains the animal
itself..presumably with the infant alongside. Now, by our calculations.. they
should be nearing the halfway point of this trip. Jim, can you still hear me?
The camera pans past Kelly, Sarah, and Ian, sitting on a couch. Kelly is the
only one awake.
Jim: (over telephone, talking to Bernard) Yes, I can Bernard. We are, in fact,
halfway to the island. It is 206 Nautical miles from our present location. The
ship is moving at about 20 knots, which will put it in about 11:30 A.M., Eastern
Time. One of the Navy's Primary concerns through all of this has been safety.
And if we take another look around the ever-growing escort around the ship, they
are taking no chances of a repeat of the San Diego incident.
Bernard: We're going to take a moment here... and run the tape of our interview
earlier today with John Hammond.
(Kelly leans towards the TV)
He's the former head of InGen Bioengineering, the man who has come forward to
spearhead this movement, not only to return these animals to their island, but
to keep the island itself intact.
Hammond: (on tape) It is absolutely imperative.. that we work with the Costa
Rican Department of Biological Preserves.... To establish, a set of rules.. for
the preservation and isolation of that island.. These creatures.. require our
*absence* to survive, not our help. And if we could only step aside.. and trust
in nature..
Hammond: life.. will find a way.
As the camera pans to the right, we see two T-rex's playing with their baby, a
herd of Stegosaurs, along with their babies. A few Pterodactyls fly by, one
landing on a branch. As it's folding it's huge wings, it lets out a loud cry.
Fade out. Credits.
