Numerous awards received by Leonard Ochtman testify to the excellence of his works. These include:
    - The Brooklyn Art Club Medal in 1891 - A medal, Columbian Exposition in 1893 - Gold Medal, Philadelphia Art Club in 1894 - Silver Madal, The Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo, 1901 - Silver Madal, The Charleston Exposition 1902 - Morgan Prize, The Salmagundi Club, 1902 - The Shaw Fund Prize of the Society of American Artists, 1902 - Innes Gold Medal, National Academy of Design, 1903 - Evans Prize, 1903 - Webb Prize, Society of American Artists, 1904 - Two gold medals, St. Louis Exposition, 1904 - Second Corcoran Prize, Corcoran Gallery of Art, 1905 - Inness Prize, Salmagundi Club, 1907 - Silver Medal, Panama Pacific Exposition, 1915 - The Ranger Fund Purchase, National Academy of Design, 1922

Ochtman was elected an associate of the National Academy of design in 1898, and an academician in 1904. He was a memberof the Society of American Artists, one of the founders and, for many years, president of the Greenwich Society of Artists. He was a life member of the National Arts and Lotus Club, and also affiliated with the Painters and Sculptors Gallery Association, The Salmagundi Club, The New York Water Color Club and The National Institute of Arts and Letters.
